how do you get wind speed and direction? I got just wind speed but not direction. I got the matek air speed digital
@stedenvideos3825Ай бұрын
The speed and direction is an OSD element you get with iNav. The info for it is derived from GPS and accelerometer data I believe. No air speed input needed. But the info is slow to update and only an estimation anyway. I use it to check I'm landing against wind after a long flight. (I also have an air speed indicator for landing speed etc.)

@stedenvideos38252 ай бұрын
I've configured it so it just loiters. I believe you can get it to do a controlled crash with iNav but it doesn't make sense to me unless its a simple flying wing and you are in the middle of some vast moor!

@@stevep4131 I totally agree. I really don’t like wide angle lens that make objects smaller/further than they are with plenty of fish eye distortion. Also I was surprised you have recorded sound. I thought Walksnail has no sound recording capability. Do you carry a separate audio recorder?

I should add the audio is from a separate device - a "8GB USB Disk Flash Drive Memory Stick 18 Hours Mini Digital Audio Voice Recorder". Sadly Walksnail HD kit does not yet do audio.

@stedenvideos38252 жыл бұрын
If you are fairly new to RC flying I'd give this one a miss. Its a fast war bird with an above average tendency to nose over on grass. Bush planes have a lot going for them - especially if you fly off less than perfect grass.

Well... plan has it at 110mm from leading edge of top wing, addendum sheet says 95mm, I've seen someone go with 115mm (Mike). I went for around 100mm. But... I don't know how anyone can be more accurate than say + or -10mm with their CG measurement anyway. And at the end of the day you can always tweak it until it feels right for you (some people like very nose heavy, other people like a plane to be very responsive). At around 100mm its fairly responsive.

Sadly (after one too many landing prangs) this plane has now been scrapped. I decided it just wasn't suitable for grass flying sites and FPV. It really needs a tarmac runway to avoid falling on its nose during takeoffs and landings. But it flew great once it was up!

@stedenvideos38253 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Not sure what you mean by TH but I'm using Frsky Taranis gear. I'm using an X8R receiver with height and air speed sensors which speak their values through the radio on the ground. Fastest so far (totally uncalibrated) is 63mph. Must admit I'd expected more!
@clayton59493 жыл бұрын
@@stedenvideos3825 Darn auto correct, I meant CG. I am surprised that 65 is the fastest you have recorded, I would have expected more. I am wondering on CG, the factory given CG seems off but want to get someone's view who has had success.
@stedenvideos38253 жыл бұрын
@@clayton5949 Hard to describe exactly where a CG is with a tapering wing leading edge and wing fillet... But if you look at the air inlet on the stbd side - immediately behind that there is a rectangular outline of a hatch in the foam (about 45mm x 20mm). There is another exactly matching hatch outline on the port side. My CG is roughly in line with the middle of that hatch outline. In fact just slightly forward of the hatch middle - its actually 20mm back from the forward vertical line of the hatch. Pretty much matches the manual I think. Lots of words but I hope it helps!

Thanks for posting this. I'm currently building one of these in locked-down Melbourne. Yours looks as though it flies very well. Can I ask a couple of questions please? Did you find the cg, at 110 mm from the leading edge of the upper wing, to be about right? Did you need any extra weight? Also, how did you route the aileron servo cables? I was really surprised when I realised the aileron servos are in the upper wing - it seems like it would have been better to put them in the lower wing and feed the cables invisibly into the bottom of the fuselage. Did you just tape them to the cabane struts and down each side of the cockpit? Finally, I haven't started covering this model yet, but from previous experience, I strongly recommend a covering iron. I doubt that a hairdrier will get hot enough. At the temperature you can get with a covering iron (150 dec C plus), the wrinkles just disappear. Sorry this comment is a bit long.
@stedenvideos38254 жыл бұрын
CG in mine is 95mm from leading edge of upper wing as per an addendum sheet from Ripmax that came with my kit. Using a 4000mAh 4S battery pushed as far forward as possible meant I didn't need any lead in the nose to achieve this. Rest of nose weight comes from a 60A ESC, Surpass 3548 790Kv motor and 12x6 prop - this gives more than enough power (only needs about 60% throttle for a scale takeoff). Aileron servo cables are run inside the covering of the top wing and then come down a rear cabane strut. I tie wrapped them to the strut. The hardest part of the build for me was covering it. I used a mini-iron designed for covering models (worth buying) to tack down to the frame. Then a domestic hair drier to shrink out the wrinkles. The hair drier I used definitely got hot enough! There is a thread about this plane on RCGroups. Worth reading if you are building one. Page 2 of thread includes a copy of that addendum sheet I mentioned. See: www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3321511-Super-Flying-Model-SE5a-DVII-kits/page2 Good luck with your build. Sorry this response is a bit long :-)

@@stedenvideos3825 Actually, thanks even more for the scans of the addendum sheet. My kit didn't include that. Quite a difference for the cg and it confirms another thing that I had been wondering about, which is that the motor specified by sfm is more powerful than required and that some thrust angle offset is a good idea. Regards, Michael
