As I write this comment this song is is 36 years old. A bit older than I am. Not sure the exact catalyst for when I became a TMBG fan, there were many avenues. Malcolm in the Middle, Homestar Runner, even Clarissa Explains it All. So many of their songs are so meaningful to me and so deep in me. I'm probably going to have Dr Worm stuck in my head as I die, and that brings me comfort. But this is my favorite TMBG song. I'm going to quote it in the best man speech I'm giving this week, and eventually my own wedding vows. What really impresses me about these guys is that they're still going, decades later. They'll stop when they're dead, and that's beautiful. They will still go on to write songs that are someone's favorite, even if this one is forgotten. That's a greater power than almost anyone in history has ever had, and I'm glad I was around to experience it.

The bridge is just perfect. I can never get enough of John Linnell's voice.

As someone who may or may not have PTSD, this song really hits home for me. This song is most likely about a car crash, which is different from the years of emotional abuse I've been subjected to at school in my childhood, but I can still relate to how TMBG is deacribing trauma. Like the narrator, I do want to go back and fix the unfixable, and I feel like what happened years ago still affects me and is unresolved. I wake up in fear of both what happened and what could be to come. Thank you for listening to my TED Talk.

Communist music is fascinating to analyze, I will say, as is Fascist music (though the Communist anthems are better). Very telling things can be gleaned from the propaganda of such regimes, lots of insights into what it takes for a society to orient itself toward the brutish fist of the authoritarian.
