It’s a real shame that we revere and celebrate “vocal acts” over genuine artisans who are obsessed with unrelentingly honing their tools. Unfortunate for Rachelle, the recording industry was unwilling to allow her to be a complete artist with rapidly expanding horizons. She wanted record companies to simply market and distribute her art. The record companies wanted Rachelle to market her as an another “cookie cutter act”. She resisted and they essentially blacklisted her.
