I remember Eduard Kunz from the IV International Competition for Young Pianists in memory of Vladimir Horowitz, at that time we (participants) lived in the same house in Vorzel (near Kiev). I remember he smoked a lot, and I saw the notes of Tchaikovsky's first concerto, which he repeated (not sure).

I have been coming back to listen to the Bach/Siloti since I was 21 and it inspired me to learn it. This was nearly two decades ago. It's so beautifully pedaled and voiced.

Lovely. But nothing to do with Scarlatti's intentions. When will we understand what baroque composers were saying...? The instrument they wrote for is an important part of the answer. Plus an understanding of how harpsichords speak...

A slightly different approach but with a strong focus and character, completely in the Italian baroque style and with a shocking end. Bravo maestro!

This interpretation is overly romanticized and does not observe widely understood baroque music interpretive guidelines or treatises.

good for the pianist! A free artist! But you should elaborate further: should he be punished by a group of baroque music "despoti illuminati"?
@RobertSweet-nw4tm3 ай бұрын
@@andradas9688also so many pianists play Scarlatti as fast as they possibly can in the belief that faster is better.

It is one interpretation. Rather beautiful I thought. Scarlatti pieces can be very mysterious.

Gotta hand it to a guy who refuses to even pretend that this is from the Baroque era. But I like this interpreation better than any of the others I've heard, certainly better than the Conservative ones. Best phrasing I've heard, terrific bell-like quality to every note. The only thing that drives me bananas is his delay of those low-note down-beats. What's up with that? It's so consistent that it's obviously deliberate. But I don't get it. It's uncomfortable.
