Hello sir, I hope you still notifications on your engine teardown. I have one that was leaking oil around that area between the starter and the oil fill. Right there where you exposed the inner part to the engine. Could the gasket on that plate you took offbe leaking? And if so,could I just replace that gasket under that plate. Or could it be the sump gasket? I tried tightening the sump gasket plate but I'm not sure. What do you think. I have 3 or 4 of these engines and had no idea how to tear one down until now.

Do you put anything on the intake gaskets? Thanks for the videos! 🤠

Nice video, but that fish tank bubbling could lull a person to sleep. LoL 😂

Hey Steve, thanks for these videos. I have this exact engine, and am trying to do a valve job on it. One thing you didn't show in these videos is how to remove these valves (unless you can point me to a video you did that I missed?). I did manage to get the intake valves off, which has the standard keyhole valve keepers. I thought the exhaust valves would be the same, but it appears to be a different type of keeper, with a different method of removal. Do you remember what you did to get the exhaust valve retainer/keeper off, and how it works? The parts manual does seem to show different retainer parts for the intake and exhaust, but there's not enough detail visible for me to tell how to get these off. Thanks for any help you can give!

Going to need a valve removal tool to compress the valve springs in order to remove the keepers. Then usually just need a small magnet to get the keepers out

@@steveb.9204 Hi Steve, thanks for the reply. I actually found this useful video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2iXq353fbCinqc) that made the difference between the intake and exhaust valve keepers clear to me. With this info, I think I should be able to manage to remove the exhaust valves. If I have time, I'll give it a try this evening. I think the biggest problem was not understanding how the exhaust valve keeper worked, so I was compressing only the springs, while I should have been compressing the retainer & springs in order to get access to the little conical keepers.

I was hoping you'd share what size of socket to use on the cover.

If I recall I believe it was a 7mm or 1/4 but it's been awhile so I'm not entirely sure off the top of my head. Something they might even be torx head screws also

Excellent info throughout. Working on the same engine right now and dealing with blown head gaskets.

Mine has two broken rods :(, but it lasted 23 years. Going to repower with an OHV twin.

I'm just curious you're doing a great job on the video but it sounds like you're doing it next to a waterfall or the toilet is overflowing.

Yes unfortunately my work area during the winter is in my basement next to the sump pump. I was unaware how loud it actually was
