@GM-ri4ww not sure, a lot of it was carried over from previous kayaks, and deals, etc. At this moment I've changed quite at bit, (I'm going to do a one year walkthrough next week) I'd say I have about 14k if it was all bought off the shelf today.

@brandonallanfishing super cool build for sure, something about kayak fishing that gets into your blood, I actually prefer kayak fishing now, get into smaller lakes with less people and that suits me just fine. Thanks for sharing your build.

Hi Brandon, do you need a relay switch for the safety switch?
@brandonallanfishing3 ай бұрын
@DavidSanchez-rk2uv I used the kill switch which interrupts the power signal to the 120amp relay that is in line from the battery to the trolling motor.
@DavidSanchez-rk2uv3 ай бұрын
@@brandonallanfishing Hi, would I still have to use a relay on a 50amp battery, the reason why I ask is because the safety switch wires are smaller and I don’t want to cause a short. Thanks for the rapid reply Brandon.
@brandonallanfishing3 ай бұрын
@DavidSanchez-rk2uv yes, I would. Most of the kill switches i have seen are usually 10-15 amp, 20amp maximum. I would definitely recommend the kill switch only be an interrupt for the relay latch power.

Great build! Is that plate the charts are mounted on a "Bow" mount or a "Console" mount plate from BoatEFX? It appears to be the console version and you just made alum support beams?
@brandonallanfishing5 ай бұрын
@woodartworx7013 you are correct, it's a console mount. I made the supports. 4" tall 2x2 aluminum square tube with a plate 4" square on the bottom , and caped the top.

If you were to flip the kayak, how would all this electronics handle it? I understand if it were a life or death situation, it's not that important, but just a clumsy miss, and then manage to knock it back quickly, I think it must weigh a lot with all things :D
@brandonallanfishing6 ай бұрын
@1984TarpeN oh yeah, it weighs a lot. Enough that I don't take it in the salt. That's for the lighter, less rigged set up. If it flips it's definitely going to be a bad day. Hopefully it will be a long wait for that day.

I see how you wired it but I don’t know how any of this works. So I was looking for an in line kill switch rated for 60 amps but the only one it seems was the 130 amp water blade brand that isn’t available. It is the same as the press down and turn red key that isn’t break away that’s widely available but has the style you have instead of the lanyard it has a ring you can make a lanyard to. So my question is, the switch you have is rated for 5 amps I believe, are you using the relay for that reason? I bought the equivalent switch you have but don’t want it to burn up as the motor can reach 52 amps wide open. I see the relay is rated for 120 amps but it’s wired to the relay and switch separately. With that relay is the switch protected?
@brandonallanfishing9 ай бұрын
You will be hard pressed to find a switch to handle the load of 60A. So the idea in this setup is the relay carries the load ( in to the relay on one side (pin 30) out to the motor (pin 87) the kill switch -with the key in the switch- supplies power to the relay coil (pin 85) and the coil is grounded to battery negative ( pin 86). While the coil has power it connects pin 30 and 87 so power "flows" to your motor. Pull the key out it stops sending power to the relay coil, so inturn the relay breaks the connection between your battery and the motor ( cut the connection between 30 and 87). That all said, it's really one switch telling another switch what to do, but because the interface switch ( the kill switch that you have contact with) can't hadle the load it tells a mechanical switch when to activate and deactivate. I have a schematic drawing of this setup, if you message me on Facebook ( brandonallanfishing)I can send it over. Pictures and diagrams help me more than words, so that could help if needed.

Very nice build my friend. These kayaks today are really one man boats. Many of us, have our kayaks, accessories, motors, and electronics. We set them up, the way we choose too. When you work, and have a hobby, you should be able to purchase whatever you want, for whatever hobby you have. And freedom your own way! Not how others think you should. I run the PP-768 J2 Bixpy, and my short shaft XI3. And my Fin drive is always tethered. You'll love that XI3. 💯 🛶 🎣

@ 4:54 there are 3 things I just can't get past with Native kayaks is that cover for the peddle drive is a pain in the butt to clean weeds and raise for shallow water and the rudder steering and deployment are just not sturdy enough IMO. I had a HooDoo tempest 120P its an entry level kayak and it had the exact same setup for all 3 that lacked durability IMO. At the price point for these kayaks Native should have done better. I was all set to purchase one I just couldn't get past those 3 things! Other than that this a awesome setup!! 👍👍👌👌 congrats! I ended up with the Oldtown 106 PDL for the reasons I stated above.

That's a super nice build. I love the folding pedal idea. Ill definitely be adding those to mine once i get it. Ignore all the people who are jealous of this build or are saying you should just buy a boat. Obviously you couldn't fish kayak tournaments in a boat but besides that one of the best things about owning a kayak is the ease or really lack of maintenance. Other than charging the batteries and greasing the pedal drive there isn't really any thing else you have to do. No gas, no motor to winterize, and its so much easier to store/transport. Everything has its pros and cons. Do what you like and what works best for you and ignore everyone else 😂

@dmontes343 the relay panel is sealed and solid state, the button panel is water resistant and has a plastic cover that comes with it. I've ran the same switch panel on my old kayak for 3 yrs with no issue in fresh and salt, and had my kayak flood twice. I belive the auxbeam website has the ratings for thier panels and switch packs.
