A real frenzy isn’t it?

Why didn't they just acknowledge their windfall and carry on? Is it because it doesn't have their hives scent? They don't do that, as far as I know when keepers put on another box. I've seen them do splits with brood and capped honey in a smaller box but I don't remember anyone saying they uncapped that honey and moved it. Bet there was a pile of wax on the ground outside their entrance! Pretty cool! Of course all questions are just stuff in my brain, don't expect answers.

You destroyed a tree that takes well over 20 years to grow that big for less than 2 lbs of bees?? Mmm, doesn't add up.

I never trust cells on the bottom of a frame took from the middle of a big colony and put in a smaller split!! I like to take at least one and put it between two frames! I have never had a small split swarm with multiple multuple cells! Good luck!

I’ve heard if you have the entrance board on an upward slope to the entrance the Bees will walk up.

Putting it at a slope helps or you can put something down in the front so the step up isn't so big. Thanks for watching!!

I wonder why the bees don't take the wax as well.
@durbees3859
@durbees3859 Жыл бұрын
I believe that since they can make the wax then it is probably more of a hassle to rework wax then to make new. I know when I put an extracted frame back in a hive the bees will cut/clean up the rough edges and then remove the little wax pieces from the hive. ..Maybe like... why buy more tupperware to store food when you already have tupperware at the house? Just my thoughts... Thanks for watching!!

Nice cutout. Did you confirm that the queen was in the vacuum?
@durbees3859
@durbees3859 Жыл бұрын
I haven't checked yet. On cutouts, I usually give the bees a week or so to get adjusted and get a good amount of wax and propolis on the frames. I have all the cutout comb held in the frames with rubber bands and it won't be stable for a week or 2. I can check in a few days and If I see eggs then I know she is in there and I won't look any further to disturb them. If no eggs then I will look further for the queen or queen cells. On my first few cutouts if I didn't physically catch the queen then I would keep going in and looking for her. I had a rubber band break on one of the frames and the comb dropped. After that, I don't rush anything and give them enough time to secure everything. I did go back to the water plant a few days later and vacuumed the last remaining forager bees that made their way back and clustered. The queen was definitely not in that small cluster. After the second trip, there were less than a dozen older forager bees still hanging around. Thanks for watching!!

What are you spraying on the empty frames before installing them?
@durbees3859
@durbees3859 Жыл бұрын
I spray sugar syrup on the frames. It gets the bees on the frames and gets them drawing comb out a little faster. I learned that a few years ago from a guy I worked with.

How do they not get stuck and unable to fly? Honey is obviously extremely sticky
@durbees3859
@durbees3859 Жыл бұрын
Usually... if you put the cappings/Honey on a surface that is flat and doesn't have edges to contain the honey then the bees will work from edges toward the middle (keeping their feet out of the honey and not getting stuck in it) or they land on the high spots of cappings which aren't that sticky. If you put the cappings in a tub that confines the honey like a pool then the bees try to go to the edge but can't really get to the edge without falling in. That situation is more like quicksand to the bees. (If I feed bees in a tub or bowl I will put straw or wood shavings on top of the cappings so the bees can at least climb out. This explanation is just my observations over the years. Thank you for watching my video!!

I wondered what you was doing at the start with that pole. haha Nothing beats a live swarm arriving or bees marching that have been rescued. Not even harvesting honey. They kind of know when you are rescuing them. Great video! If you upload that bit that was speeded up it would make a nice relaxing video. Its theraputic watching a march. I have seen hundreds over the years in real life and still never get bored.

Honeybees have more than one stomach like a cow. They move honey around in a hive passing it mouth to mouth. It gets "eaten" just once.

@@mikeries8549 sorry I thought that honey process by a bee then taken out and processed a second time by a different bee was really good honey.
@durbees3859

It all depends on how you look at it!😄 Any which way you look at it (collected, consumed, or eaten) the nectar/honey is passed from bee to bee until processed into honey then dried and finally stored/capped (in this case stored again🤣)

All honey has been "eaten" by multiple bees. That's a part of how the bees concentrate watery nectar into honey.

Yes, the bees know which hive is theirs by location and scent. They use location once it's established but they mainly go by scent when they swarm or if something happens to the hive. It's like a club card, LOL
