Oh, oh, oh! Ok, I continued watching ...your meat prices are at least 5 times the price I pay!! Oh, sweetie, I hope your salaries in New Zealand are at least $ 400,00 a year. I have no idea what the other costs of living is in your country, I can't even begin to think about that!

Hi Dawn, I think NZ has some of the highest prices for groceries in the OECD. We only have two major supermarket chains and the prices are very high. So we are happy to have Costco open here and have another option. The price of shipping goods here has also risen hugely in the last couple of years. Fueling our cars is also very expensive. Sadly keeping up with the cost of living is challenging for many families.

Hello again, it's Dawn from Florida USA. Did you say something like $70 for blueberries? OMG. The produce in New Zealand is WAY, WAY, more expensive. Some of the items you show in this video ( from COSTCO) are not ridiculously higher than how much they cost me, but, again, OMG! Produce. What do you do for a living if I may ask, and how many people are you feeding in your family? I just purchased blueberries from COSTCO a couple of days ago, same size package, I believe for $13. Bananas, 69 cents, a pound, 4 lbs of strawberries for $ 5.00. I am still watching your current vlog, so going to continue watching, although, ITS SCARY! I wish you well. I hope you can feed your family!

OMG! The prices are Exorbitant! I live in Florida, USA. I have lived in many countries, BUT, I have never, ever, seen food prices that ridiculously high ! Like, do you have to make at least $175,000 a year, just to survive? I lived in SALVBARD , an island near the north pole. Only 1 grocery store. The prices there were WAY less expensive than where you live.

Food and fuel prices have skyrocketed here in the last few years! It's a real problem for many families unfortunately 😞...But keep in mind that it is NZ dollars we are paying.

Interesting that Costco is the one making supermarket selections more international than 'local' chains even though NZ is so multi-cultural and has been for a long time. Goes to show how the local chains have been so dominant and lazy for the past few decades. They think getting Korean ramen and satay sauce on the shelves is a big thing! Meanwhile Costco is bringing in everything from Greek to Mexican to Turkish... Well done, Costco. Thanks for making groceries more affordable for us ordinary Kiwis!

Funny you should mention the Gozleme! If the one we get at the Coastesville Markets is 10/10...the Gozleme from Costco is about a 5/10. I don't mind it, but my partner says he won't eat it again. I cooked up some extra silverbeet and that made it nicer......On another note - the Spanakopita is delightful! We've purchased it 3 times now and taken it to the in-laws for dinner.

@showmethedeals80602 жыл бұрын
Quite likely! I was trying to keep that in mind while shopping and only get things that could be frozen, or that we use a lot of.
@Tigadee002 жыл бұрын
Learn to portion and freeze or pack carefully then. As you implied by your phrase "A LOT MORE food waste", there is plenty of food waste going on already. It is not the responsibility of Costco but the consumer to stop that. One would think with the high prices of groceries now, people would learn to take better care and not waste food.
@pamelawing57472 жыл бұрын
I buy their avocados and can't eat them all before they go bad so I take the ones I can't immediately eat and will be over ripe soon, and chunky mash them with lemon juice, put them in quart sized freezer bags. I use them in smoothies or thaw them on a paper towel to drain and make guacamole. It works great. They are half the price of those in my grocery stores. I also buy their bagged lemons. I use a lot of lemon so it works, not the same with limes so I don't buy them there. Some of their produce is not great, at least here, so be sure and look it over when you buy.

In the UK we have 2 different prices, one with VAT and one without. Do you not have to pay VAT??? Plus we can only get a membership if you work at specific jobs do you have the same???? Thanks for the vlog
@pamelawing57472 жыл бұрын
That's really interesting. In the US, when they first started out many years ago, you had to be connected to a business, the owner or work there. Of course that didn't prevent people from getting memberships for friends or I would take friends shopping with me. Now, anyone can get a membership if you are 18 or older, here in the US.
@showmethedeals80602 жыл бұрын
We have GST in NZ (which is more or less the equivalent to VAT) and is 15%. All the prices in Costco have the GST included which is standard in NZ. Any adult can purchase a membership and shop at Costco, you can also bring up to two guests in, but you would have to pay for anything they purchased with your purchase and sort it out with them later.
