To play with this much raw power and emotion after so many years of silence is beyond haunting; such trembling fear in those hands of his, yet such immaculate clarity all the same. Wilhelm was never going to kill the man, but this hearing truly solidified his ideals on saving the oppressed broken families the Germans had stripped the dignities of. It brings a tear to my eye every time he plays those first few resounding notes, the hollow creaking of the decrepit house, wind whistling coldly through the night. All of it tells a story, and the piano pieces it all together.

tbh this is the very scene that made me go back to piano again after a 15 years break. And I can now play the 1st ballad. For me, the circle is now complete.

People bandy around words like "awesome" and "epic" to describe the most mundane & banal things. Adrian Brody, The Pianist - the actor & the musician, the film & the impact it had on me; awesome and epic.

I was hoping to see the Nazi Man's side of the story but he sadly passed away in 1991 prison camp. This movie is based on true events. I wish i was born earlier to hear their story in person, such tragedy that cannot be forgotten😢

Cinematically, this song is thematic. But in reality, the song that wladyslaw szpilman played was chopin's Nocturne no20 in c# minor. In reality, no one who's half starved and out of practice for so long would be able to play a piece as difficult as frederic Chopin Ballade No. 1 op. 23 in G minor

This powerful scene points to how otherwise decent people who value the noblest achievements of humanity get swept up into insanity. That Nazi had a nobler side to him and I think in that moment as he heard the Jewish pianist play that gorgeous Chopin piece he realized the madness that he had allowed himself to get caught up in. Politicians and ivory tower philosophers/professors suck normal folk into insanity. If we all could be keys on a piano or strings on a violin we'd all be one in unison for the transcendent.

I really struggle to hold onto the idea that there were 'good' Nazis and 'good' Germans during the war but it's hard for me. I have never seen this movie or Schindlers List of other movies about this and cannot, it's beyond me. The IDEA alone that people were rounded up, imprisoned and murdered for being of another religion is horrific. The Jewish people were too successful, held high positions, owned banks and art galeries and businesses and that was too much for 'Germans' to bear although these Jewish people were ALSO Germans, just not the 'right kind' of Germans.
