Fantastic vid. Kenny Blake's win over Agostini was incredible. Agostini was the favourite to win. A big big name in those days. Well done for Kenny to beat him on that suzuki 2 stroke. Kenny will always be remembered after his fatal accident in 1981. RIP.

The captain was completely incompetent to command an aircraft carrier. The Admiralty have never been able to face the fact that he should never have been given this command nor allowed to behave as he did. He was a man or great renown as a submariner, and a bloody fool of the worst kind.

Another prime example of senior naval incompetence was the exposure of HMS Charybdis to German naval forces in a badly designed sortie off the French coast. The stated reluctance of RN captains involved to undertake this suicidal mission was over-ruled by the Senior Naval Officer Portsmouth. This loss of ship and many sailors was covered up by the Admiralty. SNO Portsmouth pulled rank on all post action enquiries to drown the truth.

Contrary to popular beliefs, the Hurricanes they picked up, did not prevent Glorious's own planes from flying. They were stowed below, in the aft part of the hangar, leaving the forward part and the forward lift clear. So any claims about the Hurricanes obstructing the scout planes is baseless. When Kenneth Cross went up on the deck on the morning of June 8, he saw one Swordfish (Bob McBride's plane) and three Sea Gladiators on 10 minute standby, but not ranged on the flight deck. To him, it seemed like the possibility of attack by surface ships had been completely discounted.

Playing Sultans Of Swing at the end. At the end of Dire Straits Brothers In Arms tour in April 1986, the band and crew held a farewell party at Luna Park, and Phil and Tommy were the musical entertainment.

I remember in 2018 i saw the news that Phil Emmanuel had passed. I instantly called my dad going "DID YOU KNOW PHIL YOUR BESTMATE OF 40+ YEARS WAS FAMOUS?" I remember celebrating my 9th Birthday with him and he picked me up put me on his lap, he would hold his cords and streatched my iddy bitty fingers so I could play the guitar. He was such an amazing person. I miss him everyday ❤

I would’ve loved to see this in 1986. Back then Steve vai was the rage, ‘eat em and smile’ David Lee Roth, ‘bass billy Sheehan’. But the best guitar work at that time (innovative, Although ancient Paganini 1700s 1840) Crossroads Steve vai

I am the secretary of the GLARAC Association that consists of relatives of those lost on the three ships. There is lots of speculation why these ships were lost and until the admiralty files are opened in 2041, we will not find out the truth. We are currently trying to get the new govt to open the files early, and end all the years of guesswork and speculation. The criticism of Capt Mansfield onboard HMS Devonshire is not that he failed to go to the scene of the battle, it is mainly that he failed to alert the fleet of the Glorious's situation and hence, mount a rescue operation. The vast majority of the crew of Glorious were lost due to exposure in the Arctic Sea. Captain Mansfield asked to be given the ships' communication log on the day following the loss of the three ships. That log is alleged to contain a clear message from Glorious that she was under attack, but Captain Mansfield said that Devonshire only received a garbled message. The log has never re-appeared. Everyone has their own theory about this episode, but it was wartime and people were fighting, under pressure and enemy gunfire. It's easy for us to speculate about various aspects of the losses from 85 years on, but we weren't there, and until the files are fully opened, we will never know the full story.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but Phil used to play with Gillian Eastoe and King Dog, every Sunday night in The Rocks area of Sydney... early 80's... He would play Santana and Al DiMeola and Allan Holdsworth stuff, while his brother was playing lead with Johnny Farnham's pop band. So different - yet such brothers... we used to think of them as The Dark One and the Bright One... RIP Phil, and cherish the memories. Who's got some old Gillian Eastoe King Dog recordings? Thanks for this, I saw them a few times at a pub in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney... what showmen!

The Royal family where never allowed to forget what happend to the Tsar and his family, and there lack of interest in his plight and demise, perhaps this was some sort of way of making up for that event.

The Royal Navy should admit what actually happen, however, HMS Devonshire had the Norwegian Government in exile on board. Under those circumstances it's only logical that HMS Glorious was expendable. By the way, I tried "cc" option to read what the Germans were saying, but you should see the "word salad" I got.

Such a tragedy :( There is a story of an interaction on E11 with DH losing it a bit under pressure and swearing at the engineering guys who were trying with all their strength to sort out some lever. Well the first engineer replied in kind which was deemed insubordination of course. Nasmith declined to proceed with any action apart from a demotion of the crew member which meant a great loss of income but nothing else. So DH was always a bit hot headed.

Back in the early 80’s I saw them at one of the pubs in Toowoomba. I was pretty wrecked and was sitting up the front, about 3 feet from them. They told this revolting joke, so I thought I might throw up, and told them so. I have this mental image of them both staring down at me with huge grins on their faces. I didn’t throw up, and the music was great.
