Hi Ben, those storage bags look great mounted there. Just thought I'll send you a tip. You also might want to consider some mollie panels throughout. My 4runner has them throughout, and they are a game changer. Watching you drill the holes in the troopy made me cringe. I will be faced with the same thing when I get back from my four day solo trip. I will be drilling a two inch hole in my baby to install a power outlet so I can get off shore power. Take care, and I can't wait for your next video on the troopy.
@BenStinnett22 сағат бұрын
There is nothing quite as nerve-wracking as drilling holes in your car! The molle panels are a great idea. I may do something like that to mount some bags up on the ceiling! Thanks so much John! Hope you have a great trip 🏕️

1. Ben is a great guy. He took time to speak with about troopys as I'm about to buy one in the USA or import one. 2. Bulk storage sucks, well for the most part. I have a windoor that lets me access my kitchen stuff & food from in/outside the vehicle. I put a folding table when Ben has his awesome maxtrax table. Those canvas bags look great for keeping the small items handy. 3. 270 awnings rocks. I use mine for shade when working on my rig. My build seems like it is ever changing as my kids get older and our needs change. I'm glad to see you getting to the fun stuff after you persevered through the mechanical issues.

Funny that all KZbinrs seems to be so excited about this Icecoo. Is that just a coincidence or just very aggressive marketing? The unbiased reviews online seems to be less favorable.
@Eddie_-_7 күн бұрын
Sorry for sounding negative. The videos you do are really great and excited to follow your refit.
@BenStinnett7 күн бұрын
I appreciate the comment Eddie! And I totally get it. I’ve decided to be very intentional with the the brands I work with, I get emails daily asking to send me products that I regularly turn down because I don’t see myself needing or using them, and I refuse to become a shill for some company just to make a quick buck. With this fridge, I was actually influenced by videos from guys like David at Off the Grind, then got to see it in person at the expo, and then reached out because I thought it was the right fridge for this build. Seeing how much marketing there is, I think it’s going to be really cool to see how it stands up to long term use and abuse in the troopy, and to share it all transparently. No gimmicks, no sugarcoating 🤙

Can you not just use a bluetti power pack, and just charge it via the alternator and solar
@Eddie_-_7 күн бұрын
I would not recommend that for a full live aboard overlander. Much more reliable to build a stand alone system and easier to repair if something breaks down the road.
@BenStinnett7 күн бұрын
Hey Tim! I ran that type of solution for a while on my 4Runner. It was great for weekend trips, but like Eddie said I think for a long term, long range overlander it makes more sense to build the system. Using the individual components for solar, alternator, and shore charging means that if something breaks I can still limp along with power until I can replace it. Whereas if something breaks in power pack like the bluetti it’s more of a black box and I’d likely be completely without power until I could source a replacement.

@buschtaxi75driver557 күн бұрын
Hello Ben, spot on as usual. The main task should be to reduce weight where you can. I really like this fridge very much but is it as reliable as an Engels ? Mine has been running for over 15 years with no issue. Also, I'm still thinking wheter I need a freezer departement or not 'cause I'm not eating much beef anyway. What are your thoughts on this one ? Cheers, Bruno
@BenStinnett7 күн бұрын
Hey Bruno! Engels are definitely legendary, and I always say if it’s working for you, then put that money in your gas tank! The main difference between the two is the compressor. Engel uses a great Japanese swing compressor, and Iceco is using the German Secop/Danfoss. The Secops are definitely well proven in the Marine world with a large market share and long history of reliability. Hopefully that holds true in an overland environment, but either way I’ll keep you updated here 🙌

I love tuning into your channel as it is a lot more of a relaxed channel that is always grounded and engaging. As for your transfer pump they are a pretty standard and low cost part if you look for an overseas option. Alternatively the long ranger fuel tank has a drain plug at the rear for cleaning/fuel recovery and the Toyota 80 series petrol had the option of 2 tanks and uses a transfer pump to move fuel. Depends on your vehicle’s specific setup.

It's nice to see some of the toys for your build inside the troopy Ben. I can't wait to see it all underway. I'm actually thinking of installing an offshore outlet in the 4runner as sometimes I pull into a campground with shore power. It will be beneficial to me as sometimes I need a heating pad for my back, as where the jackery will drain too quickly for that kind of power. Pluss I could use it for many other things. Speaking of which, am I wrong to be assuming that you might be installing an induction burner into the troopy? If so, I'm sorry if I ruined the surprise for everyone. Told you I can't wait for the build 😅😅😅 take care, and be safe out there .
@BenStinnett8 күн бұрын
Shore power is so nice! Great for those campgrounds where it’s available, or even for a quick top off of the batteries when solar isn’t keeping up. You’re on the right track 🤫 I’m trying to get rid of propane entirely, and add some additional warm weather comfort while I’m at it 🥶
@johnwebb22328 күн бұрын
@BenStinnett don't get me wrong, though, I'm going to hate putting a hole into the 4runner, but I think once it's done, the job will look good, and i I'm going to love getting into a warm cozy truck with my heater running. Since I think it will be safer than a diesel heater.

Also, if we were to try the first 2 mile section of fins on the south side of the paved road, is it the same, easier or harder than the rest of the trail? Thx!
@BenStinnett11 күн бұрын
I think you should definitely give it a try. I didn't feel like any of the trail was particularly difficult. That first section has a couple of easier alternate routes too if you decide to avoid some obstacles. Let me know how it goes!
@rickdougherty137111 күн бұрын
Hi Ben, I'll be in Moab next week and wasn't planning on Fins but am interested in the trails in Arches, tower and the whale eye, how much easier were they than fins was for you? I'll be in a 4r w/ 3" and 265's.
@BenStinnett11 күн бұрын
Hey Rick! I think the Arches trails will be super doable for your setup. Only a few very minor technical sections, mostly just some bumpy roads and light sand driving when I was there. Conditions may have changed, I'd suggest checking the trail on OnX to see some updated trail reports!

@BenStinnett15 күн бұрын
Hey Jack, it's true, the road has a few spots that are pretty gnarly. I heard from a ranger on this last trip that they are redoing the entire trail this year, and that will likely make it far more accessible.

Thanks to your video I just went there, I know you posted this for years ago but I was watching it the other night and I just bought a bronco raptor I have an off road modified teardrop trailer and I wanted to see how it would work and go someplace different so I hooked up the trailer and went there the road was rough, did I say rough!!!! very rocky the worst part for me is I didn’t know really where I was going but it was fun and then when I got out there I didn’t know which way to go found so many lakes, fun awesome place to camp hardly any people but at my camp spot lots of yellow jackets like insane amounts but they weren’t stinging, coming from the Bay Area the altitude kick my butt big time!!! how did you guys find the hiking trail by that damn I couldn’t find the trail, awesome spot great way to break in a new vehicle and it’s doable if you have a high clearance off-road trailer. Cool video thanks👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
