It just struck me that this (initial) theme (Mary’s Theme) was probably designed to closely (not exactly) fit the nursery rhyme words !! Try them and you will see how obviously they are suited. All this after seeing the film first in 1971 in New Haven in a small “Art Film” theater near Orange and Trumbull.

A week ago (Nov 10, 2024) I checked on Google and KZbin to see the availability of this movie - Mary, Queen of Scots with Vanessa Redgrave 1971. I am in the US. The result was that it was not available except on Amazon Prime. I really wish it could be seen on the cable services that I pay for or even on You Tube for a reasonable charge. It might not be 100% historically accurate but it is great entertainment with some excellent actors such as Nigel Davenport.

When I was a child at school the music teacher asked all of us to bring in a record they liked all the class brought in records of the latest hit I brought in the soundtrack to Thunderball, when it was my turn to choose a track the class laughed I almost cried. The teacher saw my pain in my eyes and asked why I chose this track, I hesitated and stood up all the class looked at me and I explained in detail how the music made me feel, the teacher smiled softly and when I finished she said "You must love the composer" I smiled and sat down. I got an A grade in music, the only one in the class.

This just autoplayed after "Papillon" by Jerry Goldsmith, which I was finding rather repetitive. I had no idea KZbin had just swapped composers on me - my ears perked up and I thought "Oh this is an improvement!" then I checked the track name and discovered I was listening to John Barry!

That's a pretty fantastic piece of Music - shades of Elgar's Nimrod variation.

First time I heard this was today on the classical music station & was mesmerized by this, & keep it now as a favorite. Some soundtracks are so stunning it is equally stunning they don’t get the attention they deserve.

John’s score for Raise the Titanic was pretty too far fetched idea but the late Richard Jordan was eye candy n his scores r so haughtingly beautiful that even if I didn’t know the name of the score was from I’d still cry. To me the granddaddy of his movie scores was Somewhere in time that’s when I fell in love with Maestro Barry ❤️🎼🙋🏼‍♀️
