To be honest, I was also surprised at how empty it was. I think it could have something to do with the remodeling that’s still going on. In the video you can see a portion of the park is closed off.

There is a plan to restore some parts of the river to their natural habitat. But that’s years away. However, there is a reservoir being built north of Griffith Park next to the 134 freeway.
