In modern time, A japanese like director Yoshihiro Nakamura doesn't know a little bit of english is a strange thing. Despite all these, Mumon is a great film for sure.

I loved her presentation - so relaxed and easy to understand and follow! I have lived in Japan for 27 years, but have never seen the black natto she talked about - the one that tastes like "chocolate and coffee flavor?!" Could maybe get my husband to try that one!!!!!

@4:11 The comment about audiences becoming more accepting of reading subtitles has to be more for English speaking countries particularly the USA because I think non native English speaking countries are pretty used to it.

spooky, mesmerizing. Learned about this through the series Shogun. Loved the Nohgaku scene. Those chanting sounds "YhooooOOOO!" and the drum sounding instrument are amazing

Japan actors were brilliant especially characters of Mariko Toranaga and Fuji . Jarvis as a Blackthorne was a biggest movie disaster , unconvincing, lacking passion , showing mostly a kind of a moron face

I'm a Third-generation American Japanese woman, who has seen both versions of Shogun. I totally loved the 1980's TV miniseries but appreciate this adaptation so much more. This version was so authentic, allowing me to be transported back to, what I imagine 16th Century Japan would have been like. Kudos to all of you. I have found a new sense of Pride in my culture. It was hard to be proud of my culture while growing up, because of Pearl Harbor. Again, deeply grateful. Job well done.....

Hiroyuki Sanada in person is just so humble, almost embarrassed by the accolades being heaped on him, and so quiet spoken as opposed to the character that he portrays. He absolutely lives the character. Such great acting! He is so graceful and mesmerizing in how he commands your attention when he steps into the scene. He always looks so elegant and classy in these interviews! And being such a GORGEOUS badass doesn't hurt either🤤🤩😘!!!

Great lesson for beginners, but just to give some extra context, 'Sayonara' is more of a term for saying goodbye to teachers and adults or if you're saying goodbye for a long period of time. My aunt is Japanese and she told me that the most commonly used ways to say goodbye now are 'matane' or 'jaane' since they're more casual and for all groups, 'sayonara' is used less often in Japan these days and it's pretty formal/not as friendly.

This is bizarre. I liked these lessons. Than without giving any instruction on the Japanese script, it just jumps to it, no more romanji. Inexplicable.

Being a traditional society has created many of the things people celebrate about Japan, yet it seems JapanSocietyNYC are constantly creating content to undermine that. I wonder why that is?
