Autechre and Japan have a bit of a history... iirc Sean mentioned in an old interview how a Buck-Tick remix helped keep their finances afloat in 1994 and stopped them dropping out of the music industry. In this particular case, some of the co-producers on this album were Nav Katze's Miwako Yamaguchi and Yuji Sugiyama, who had worked with Autechre a year before (Happy? Qunk Mix and Qunk Mix Dub) as well as Soft Ballet's Maki Fujii, who had worked with Autechre two years before (Jail of Freedom: Jailtilsli) - so quite a few connections! One of them must've asked Autechre if they wanted to collaborate again...

I just recently moved from the Pacific Northwest to Texas after living there my whole life, so listening to this reminds me so much of home. This makes me think of being at a high place and looking out at the green landscape and snowy volcanoes in the Cascades.
