The roots and tendency of ideological fascism in American politics is expressed very well here: Master's Thesis: "Against the classes and the masses: The American Legion, the American Federation of Labor, and Square Deal Americanism in the 1920s" -Gregory S. Hopely

The drama department of BBC cannot be surpassed! This extraordinary writing should serve as a cautionary tale for many people in power today.

Valuable enrichment of James's work & testament to his improvement over the years. Your narration is quite excellent. Gratitude.

Thank you, great narration. I love M R James stories. I think I have been fascinated with them since I saw a BBC adaptation of Lost Hearts when I was quite young and it scared the heck out of me! One of my favourites is The Experiment, which seems to be one of his lesser known ones.

Now the neo fascists are well positioned to attempt to take full control. Only the people en masse can stop them. get up, stand up!

I would say trumpism is a pre fascist movement. Trump in power didnt chase down trade unions or smashed workers organization. There were no crazed masses beating up immigrants or jews. Trumpism regenerated into bonapartism since he leaned on the police and the securicratic apparatus and not its mass plebeian base who were itching for him to unleash them. This could be explained by the fact that Trump fears the plebeian mass, his class nature betrays him. However, eventually such full blown fascism can crystallize from that movement if its not stopped in its embryonic state by american workers working in tandem with immigrant workers

The main reason this story was not that popular was it was first published many years after M. R. James death in 1990. It was found among his long forgotten manuscripts, probably, James was not quite satisfied with the first draft and it was not meant to be published. This story was alluded to in his essay 'Stories that I have tried to write.'

M. R. James is one of my favourite writers, I have read and re read his ghost stories many times over. Two of my particular favourites are 'An Episode of Cathedral History' and 'The Mezzotint'. I would recommend Michelle Paver 'Dark Matter' and 'Thin Air' to any readers who enjoy James.

Nice to see this - although it's a shame it wasn't up in time for Christmas! Palmer is perfect, and of all the many readings of this story I think this is the best.
I'm enjoying this, but it is all materialistic. There is no discussion of race, blood, soil.

I just heard the latest episode of IDSG And was horrified when I heard Daniel Daniel talk about his mental disorder AKA depression. To some dismay may confirm that that Dan Dan is a is a typical leftist mental case which most of them are but it's sparked concern from for me. I'm sending out love and prayers that that Daniel Harper who is severely morbidly obese doesn't doesn't do anything drastic like like you know set himself free from this awful life full of nazis And people who don't want people grooming their children into becoming becoming Degenerate freaks of nature. If Daniel Harper work to leave us think of all the virtue signaling pro pro grooming propaganda We would miss out on. Yes think of all the Wendy's baconators In this world that would uneaten. Get well soon Danny Harper!🙏👌
