Thank you for producing this piece and sharing your knowledge on Audre Lorde. I’ve only just started reading her work and this footage helps to put her words into context with your relaxing commentary. A pleasure

Hi … Love this! The books that you show in the clip of Galignani are all in english? Is there a huge range of english books like fantasy and romance?

You never gave any examples of her work and your thoughts at the moment on it... :-)

What really struck me, having seen only the first few pages of the cancer journals (I will read it when I'm ready), was that when she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1977, women rallied round to help her. It doesn't happen now. Nobody is rallying round to help me. I am three weeks post masectomy. I'm going to get a cleaner in. There's no-one oferring to help me with mine. A FEW people have said, "Just ask if you need anything," but you can't just ask someone to do your cleaning...None of them have made the boundaries clear ie they haven't exolained what they can & can't do to help. i've even had a family member post online. "You're okay. You have a good support network" without asking me first. There are so many people out there who can't afford a cleaner. Yet no one will be oferring to help them either.

Love your advises. Goals really should be realistic. And it's all about finding time for something you love. My personal life hack: when i read a big book that is not very convenient to carry in my purse, i have the same book on my phone. So i read from my screen during the day and then come back to the printed book in the evening. It's always so satisfying to turn all the pages I've read during the wait time as you call it

I am a bengali male immigrant to the United states. I read her book The bluest Eye in my AP lit class in high school. It really broke my entire world view and the myths I bought into about America before coming to the United States. Her works changed my life for the better. Thank you for making a video about her. I wish more people read her. Also that quote at 2:40 is one of my fav quote.

maya angelou is such a woman. knowing how to read poetry is real work tbh! i feel like we grew up on the same internet, sarah kay and lorde (although i was more of a pure heroine teenager haha). i basically binged all of button poetry, spoken word (and rap!) are def a gateway to reading poetry collections

Rappers are definitely poets. A lot of the content and discussion surrounding the argument that claims otherwise usually comes from white people/white academics who try to invalidate rap and its genius (some have even been audacious enough to discredit it by saying it isn't "real music"). Rap makes poetry accessible, and takes it out of the elitism it is often shredded in. Rap, like traditional poetry, is written with intention, every word is chosen with care. I'd argue that clever wordplay, combined with an intentional beat, further elevated the emotional depth of poetry.

Thanks for doing this book and sharing your intelligence and well thought out take on it. It was so helpful hearing your take on it, and hearing you give your personal stories that helped explain things and how they show up for all of us womyn every day. Anger is so important ,yet was shamed out of us womyn to access. This is a PATH back to integrating it back into our lives. Love & Light

Best wishes from Cambodia. Thank you for this video and honoring Audre Lorde in this way. I was the director of a bilingual, multi-site AIDS education program and the facilitator of consortium of organizations in the South Bay of LA County from 1987-91. Audre Lorde's picture hung in my little office with the quote, “When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid.”― Audre Lorde

My reading goal is 44 books because I want to read the rest of the Poirot series, then I'm finishing some books I started reading last year. I also want to read some other things.
