Very nice man. Ideas and execution are top notch as always but man I gotta ask: have you stopped playing rim shots on your snare backbeats and accents? I'm feeling like some of the crack and punch I heard in your older videos is no longer there. Maybe it's just the drum/tuning? Anyway don't take it the wrong way, this is still some of my favorite drum content out there and I'll religiously smash the like button every time you upload.
@SteveHynesАй бұрын
Thanks so much. Yes, good spot! I haven't played rim shots for the last 3 or 4 years really. Peter Erskine said they tend to fill a lot of the sonic spectrum and I kinda agree (at the moment). They sound great in solo vids (I do some at around the 6:30 mark), but on recordings I've heard of me, I've often preferred the non rim shot sound. Took some getting used to though, as I'd rim shotted for decades!
@bizarrejaybleuАй бұрын
@SteveHynes thanks for the response! I did notice the rim shots in the matched grip section after I'd posted the comment and loved it haha! Can also very well understand why you have decided to use them more sparingly these days.

I recently bought the Yamaha 9500 direct drive. Quite simply it is the best pedal I've ever used over a 50 year playing career. I've used DW5000 and 9000, Tama Iron Cobras, Speed kings, various Pearl models, Gibraltar, Yamaha FP9, Sonor and others. This Yamaha 9500D is so light and responsive to use but also very powerful when needed. It just feels like an extension of my foot. Whatever I'm thinking it simply just executes it effortlessly. Love the smooth footboard which alows me to slide very effectively when wearing socks on my electric kit at home..
