If Shelved by Genre read Roadside Picnic, I think feel like it's hard and maybe odd to separate the film Stalker, so I'd like to pitch that for the bonus episode you read a volume or two of Otherside Picnic, and maybe read the "an anbandoned tractor in a field is yuri" interview. Especially in a greater discussion of aesthetics in these spaces, abandoned tractor yuri is getting at the broth this stew simmers in from a really strange direction. I'm not sure if it's practical to get to it but there's also an arc in Otherside Picnic involving the US Army in Okinawa that coupled with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and the arma->fortnite pipeline strongly brings military nerdery into question. I really don't like how Otherside Picnic fetishizes weapons, and military nerds in both the US and Japan have a history of propping up fascism incidentally and directly.

Thinking about Keith saying the puzzles here dont feel as natural. A big part of the Zero Escape series is that the puzzle rooms are generally showing the themes and ideas of the characters or situations. A lot of 999s puzzles have you controlling things from afar. Getting information from somewhere else. Big examples of this are telling Clover what to do when shes trapped in the lab. Or the forklift robot in storage. The first class cabin, one of the first puzzles you can do in the game. Has you constantly grabbing items from one cabin and going to a mirrored cabin to use them. Literally the morphogenetic field. This game is doing a lot of the same thing, its just that you dont normally see it until youve experienced the whole thing.

Keith accidentally stumbling onto the optimal prisoner's dilemma strategy for repeat games
@FriendsattheTable7 күн бұрын
wait what was my strategy this was so long ago
@UnderstatementJones17 күн бұрын
@@FriendsattheTable Ally to start with tit-for-tat retribution for defectors in subsequent rounds, going back to ally once the defector does. It's complicated though because you die if you reach zero, it makes it awfully hard to choose ally ever again if you buy into the fiction - you don't really have a chance to develop the kind of patterns that allow repeat players to establish cooperation, so probably you're stuck betraying forever or until you and whoever's left playing with you are so miserably trapped you decide you don't care if you die. Like, you're wrong about the solution to the prisoner's dilemma famously being to ally! It's famous because the solution is to betray even though you know it's a worse outcome than allying - if there are genuinely high stakes and you have any real doubts about the other person, you're compelled to screw each other. Once you relax the conditions of the game there are ways to get out from under its logic, but if you accept the conditions it's literally math.
@UnderstatementJones17 күн бұрын
I'm honestly not sure what the dominant strategy is for the first decision given these conditions - you're right that betrayal makes it very hard to succeed in subsequent rounds, but the risk of being betrayed and getting stuck there is also pretty dire. For infinite-repeat type games, it's pretty easy to establish a trust-with-retribution pattern of collaboration, but the limitations here constrain you.
@UnderstatementJones17 күн бұрын
Sylvi's right that it's a particularly clever move for Uchikoshi to have you betrayed here, because a lot of video game implementations of the prisoner's dilemma are trying to teach you "just choose ally, be good, and things will work out, break free from the logic of selfishness!" But you can only do that because the stakes of video games are low and because the developer controls the outcome; you can choose ally because if your character dies you can just reload, and they can choose ally because the developer programs their responses and the results.
@UnderstatementJones17 күн бұрын
Don't get me wrong, I'm not like some edgelord libertarian over here, it's just the dilemma is a really good illustration of a bunch of really difficult problems in organizing society.

Started this up wondering if they'd talk about the Kuru Toga pencil. Only 7 minutes in and it's already mentioned! I have one of the all metal ones (I think it's called the Elite?) and it works exactly as advertised. I used to break so many pencil leads and now I never do. It did require a minor adjustment to how I write but now that I'm used to it, it's the only pencil I use. Also, a Japanese-style pencil case is a game changer. I'm a scatterbrain and having all of my stationery in one neatly organized place helps me tons. edit: Oh snap. I know what those Hilroy notebooks Janine is talking about are. Those Hilroy notebooks were a staple thing we used when I was in elementary school in western Canada back in the late 90s. We were required to use them and have one for each subject.

Part of what goes wrong for people with algorithm content is that a function every algorithm has is serving you some stuff based on random or based on the behavior of people who have some irrelevant similarity to you, like your location. A second function is they serve you stuff that resembles stuff you've seen before. So it randomly shows you one restaurant worker sketch, and you don't refuse to watch it, now they're going to show you another because you have watched it before. Not comprehending that you didn't choose to watch it, so your account having a recorded complete view of the video /means nothing/. Soon enough they've put 40 or 50 of them in front of you and they think that means you want to see another. I have shorts blocked everywhere I can muster the energy to do so but there's a lot of topics of regular videos that I just can't allow to be in my history, because one single video that has the word lego in the title will make 100% of my recommendations be lego content. I would watch more lego content if the algorithm wasn't being a creep about it
@Ziraya014 күн бұрын
there's actually a really fun exercise in the derangement of algorithms you can do. You go on google and search for a thing, it has to be something that gives you the "people also asked" section. Every time you click on a different thing people asked, it adds several more items to the list based on what you clicked. Quickly glance at the result it reveals, which will almost always be a recombination of words to manufacture an answer the result does not contain. Move along, and open a new question, repeat. I asked google "length of milwaukee", and after maybe a dozen questions I'm at "What is the difference betweeen docking and undocking?", this is in regards to a series of questions about living in an RV; answer: You can undock the placement so that the window floats over the session window"
