+Dr Neubart & Dr Stern I'm a permanently disabled Nurse who has been through (failed) Spinal fusion~ microsurgery in 2004 (age of 38) of L3,L4,L5 & S1. (I had cages, screws & "gel" instead of bone) I already know I'm going to need cervical fusion surgery, 99.9% sure from the symptoms.I need to get newer tests as my last was in '06 which was verified after having a minor stroke, and getting a CT scan & an MRI back then. ( Hopefully my Pulmonologist will give me clearance...I was a preemie & have lung disease) The same with my lower back, I've had neck/arm/hand pain since a teen. Add to that 3 children, being a Nurse (repetitive movements + being hurt by geriatric & detox pts) lifting weights as a teen & being in a car accident at 28 didn't help. lol Have to keep your sense of humor!!! My question is why don't you imobilize the neck with a brace? Thanks!

Thank you so much for this information. I recently was involved in a bad mountain bike crash three weeks ago. I have a herniated disk in the c4 and c5. I saw a PA for the neurosurgeon three weeks after my crash. He looked at my MRI and CT scan from the NIGHT of the crash and said I needed surgery. I have no pain, only slight numbness that had gotten better over time. He was pretty firm that I needed surgery and told me to continue wearing a neck brace until I see the surgeon. Shouldn't he had waited to be so firm without seeing a current scan? I will seek a second opinion now thanks to your information!

Don't lift weights. quit immediately. That type of activity will increase the pain; instead ride a bike (when your not going through the pain of course).

I'm also having this surgery on Nov 12th but with 3 discs(C4/5, 5/6, 6/7) being 'fused'(?) and many bone spurs(& herniation and stenosis)..this is the first surgery video where I actually heard the term 'cage' used and it was referenced so quick I had to play it 3 times before I was sure that term was used. I truly appreciate the entire process of what happens when you are 'put under' in the operating room! I've often wondered if I could get a video of my surgery...I think that would be absolutely fascinating to have and watch!! Thank you all for being a part of this video!!

Hi, i'm suffering from a herniated cervical disc and have been advised by a spine specialist to undergo ozone nucleolysis (ozone therapy). Would you recommend to treat what I have and what are the side effects of such treatment ?

I had 3 of these lumbar injections, and none of them worked. I had 3 levels fused, and scoliosis repaired, eventually, with fantastic results. A total success. I read that these injections and the medications used aren't even sanctioned by the FDA, and can result in even more problems if not done properly. Luckily mine was, but to find out a procedure performed 3 times on my spine was ineffective, dangerous, and not even medically indicated was a shock to me! I just had 4 levels of cervical fusion a week ago, and my surgeon (not the same one that did the lumbar injections) didn't offer injections either prior to the lumbar or cervical surgery. My trust and confidence in my surgeon was warranted, and I concluded the cost of the 3 injections went to line the pockets of the doctor who did them, with NO results whatsoever. I wish I'd known that beforehand. Everybody, read, educate yourself, and do your homework!

Give it up for Judy Stern. Nice to hear an honest and competent therapist who speaks candidly within her scope of practice. I love the follow up at the end of the video from Seth Neubardt as well. Great to see cooperation between surgeons and physical therapists both focused on patient care.

regarding to my MRI report , i have c4-c5 ( medium size bulging disc) , c5-c6 (small size bulging disc) , and c6-c7 (small size bulging disc) the symptoms, - uncontentious pain in my left arm - dizziness (24/7) - i feel a little bit heaviness in my legs my doctor informed that - in my case - the dizziness and heaviness are not related to the bulging discs that i have . desperately, i had a blood test and found out that my vitamin D is 23.8 ng/ml , and Ferritin is 22.9 ng/ml , i started to take a medicine 5 weeks ago , but unfortunately i didn't get better yet , so it will be really appreciated if you could help out , and put my mind to rest by answering the following - are the symptoms that i feel related to my cervical disc issue ? Should quite working out and lifting weights ? thanks in advance

I have a lumbar herniated disc and i think the tape made it worse. I started to have new symptoms like tingling on my toes which I never had since injury. Not sure if the tape is meant to do that? Or aggravated the situation?

On April 16 I had four level cervical spine discectomy and fusion surgery to relieve compressed nerves due to congenital spinal stenosis. My first symptoms and diagnosis was for the lumbar spine, in 1989, but I was able to avoid surgery by means of conservative treatment. However, about a year ago I began experiencing neck pain and it was determined that I needed the cervical spine surgery before the lumbar surgery, which will likely be done this summer. I also watched a more graphic video of a more invasive procedure, and I found it fascinating. I am an electronic engineer and amateur machinist and I enjoy learning about surgical techniques like this.
