Preventing the introduction of invasive species to Genovesa island for example a still pristine intact ecosystem free from all invasive species except the human Cruise Tourists who are allowed to visit terrestrial sites on Genovesa are just a ticking time bomb for unintentional introductionof of invasive species resulting in the need for Restoration and Extermination efforts in the future (expensive initiatives). Please consider backing the campaign Zero 👣Genovesa

None of this would be nesessary if people would just get the hell off of that island and leave mother nature to her job. Will not be long that no one will want to visit or even hear about this plight brought on by people.

Thanks for your comment and interest in our work! The history of human action in Galapagos is a complex one, and many of the issues that the Island's face were brought about by human presence. However, humans are also the ones who have taken it upon themselves to reverse these damages and restore the Archipelago, and many of the incredible wildlife species that live on the Archipelago today would not have escaped extinction without human intervention!

Like the Galapagos Tortoise, are there any of these beautiful creatures in captivity (Like a zoo), or are all of them exclusively found on the islands? Asking out of curiosity :)
@GalapagosConservancy2 жыл бұрын
There are a few Galapagos Tortoises at zoos around the world, but the vast majority are still with us on the Islands!

@@bromaro Oh gotcha sorry about the confusion! As of now, there are no Pink Iguanas in captivity, but experts are working to make decisions on whether or not a captive breeding program is necessary or even possible!

This was my first opportunity to hear Dr. Salaman speak about GC's work at length. He brings a wealth of knowledge and gravitas to GC and as a donor and past traveler to the Galapagos, I'm heartened to see this level of professionalism from the GC staff. Best wishes for 2022!
