I‘m a USAF / USNR vet. My question is why does it take 80 years for the DOD to properly award those who stormed Normandy beaches? I know that a couple medals were missing from my DD214. Vietnam era.

If ALL service members from the inception of this medal, both reservists, and active duty would have been adwarded this medal; this video with an excellent explaination would not have been necessary. Always playing administrative games is NOT admirable, it is also divisive; playing active duty personnel against reservist personnel. Yes, I do have a National Defense Service Metal.

„Rooster“ - VFA-87 „Golden Warriors“ is an F/A-18E squadron. In fact it was an Jet from this Squadron who made the only Aerieal Kill with a Super Hornet! „Hangman“ - VFA-151 „Vigilantes“ an F/A-18E squadron. „Phoenix“ - VFA-41 „Black Aces“ an F/A-18F Squadron (one of my Favourite Squadrons). „Bob“(WSO) - VFA-51 „Screamin Eagles“ VF-51 was an F-14 Squadron who was disestablished in 1995. So it is not an active squadron. Viper mentioned in the first movie that he flew with Mavericks Dad in VF-51. So this is another easter egg refering to the Original Movie. „Payback“- VFA-125 „Rough Raiders“ is an Fleet Replacement Squadron flying the F-35C „Lightning II“ Before the F-35 they flew the legacy Hornet, but as far as i know never Super Hornets. „Fanboy“(WSO) VFA-143 - „Pukin Dogs“ is an F/A-18E Squadron. So this Squadron has actually no WSOs. „Coyote“ - VFA-86 „Sidewinders“ an F/A-18E Squadron. „Yale“ - VFA-11 „Red Rippers“ an F/A-18F Squadron „Harvard“(WSO) - VFA-11 „Red Rippers“ an F/A-18F Squadron „Fritz“ - VFA-2 „Bounty Hunters“ an F/A-18F squadron. In the Movie he flys an E Hornet „Omaha“ - VFA-136 „Knighthawks“ an F/A-18E squadron. In the Movie he flys an F Hornet with „Halo“ as WSO „Halo“(WSO) - VFA-22 „Fighting Redcocks“ an F/A-18F Squadron Sources : Reddit

That's a lot of ribbons on Towberman's uniform. Most flag officers who served before, between, after, and in both world wars had half as many or fewer.

Several years ago , I wrote to the Military Record Center in Missouri , to ask about whether the unit I was assigned to was authorized the Presidential Unit Citation while I was there . The answer I got was a surprise . While I was not authorized the PUC for the period that I was in Southeast Asia , I was awarded TWO new awards . The first one was THREE bronze stars on the VSM , and, the second one was the Vietnam Gallantry Cross . After all the years after my service in Southeast Asia , I still wear these awards with pride .

My father served with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team in Korea and participated in both Combat jumps of the war. In addition, he was awarded a Naval Presidential Unit Citation for participation in the Inchon landing. His KSM has 4 bronze stars and the Arrowhead device. My question is whether he was/is eligible for more than one Arrowhead device?

How about a service medal for Cambodia? For which i served for almost a year. When the politicans moved the border for political reasons to tell the pople back home we were not there.do not remember ever getting a good conduct medal, but who cares! We all fought but never said we did In combat for i flew as a door gunner as well as my regular duties as secret tactical communications from Cambodia to Vietnam. Not to mention patrol operations . Guess being behind enemy lines does not count. But like i said i only would like recognition for Cambodia for the public was lied to. Have ben finger printed over 200 times wish they would just inserted a chip in me to prove who i am. Then they try to take away my gun rights and do not say why, just that they made a mistake but still had to get finger printed because of security clearances. What next? I have proven myself in war and at home can they make the same claim?

My grandfather was in K company 3rd battalion, 60th Infantry from Oct44-Feb45, he was assigned as a 30 Cal ammo bearer and was wounded in the battle of the bulge. I requested his dd214 from St. Louis but was informed those records were destroyed in 1970’s fire. They were able to give me a copy of his final pay voucher and I was able to piece together a rough time line of where he was stationed.

Aw, come on, NOBODY puts a device on the Defense Medal, not 1 person I know has ever put a star or oak leaf on their ribbon! After my 3d GCM I quit putting more on. I got a star on my Iraq campaign, but that’s 1991 & 2005-06. My wife could have 4 stars or an oak leaf, but NOBODY does it. She has leaves on her Commendations. I/we have numerals on our NCO Ribbons. I just have gold spurs & Stetson, no CIB or the new thing CAB. She doesn’t have the CMB as a Nurse LT. My wife was in Panama, when it kicked off; I was still in HS. I got the Valorous Unit Citation at 73 Easting.

So someone explain this to me please. Those of us who were awarded this and the gwot service medal orginally. Though its on our dd214 or if things need to be updated bc you were supposed to recieve it. Does that mean you can never get another one or have ur records updated to show award if its no nlonger being awarded. Im seriously confused. Ive been out since 2001. Been trying to get my medals n shit to give to my kids since my health is going down hill. Thanks for the help, airborne!

All four decorations, one ribbon and one badge for a year of combat service, excluding devices, wounds, and bravery awards! And I always assumed it was the Russians who splattered themselves with medals! The sheer number of his/her decorations would probably cause my eyes to hurt if someone served longer.

Yup, Gedunk it may be, BUT I am PROUD to wear it upon my chest! I was the Gig Engineer on the USS Kitty Hawk, CV-63. The CO of the Shitty Kitty said to me, " Sailor, I will NOT have a crew member on MY GIG that does not have a medal on his chest!" Navy = Never Again Volunteer Yourself. But I would go again in a heartbeat...God Bless America!

My father served with Company L, 3rd Battalion, US 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division from August 1950 until July 1951. He originally trained with the 14th Infantry Regiment, was in the Reserves when he was called back up. When he got to Korea the 14th Infantry was still back in the States so he was plugged in where he was most needed.

When I was in Army basic training in 1970 there were some drafted guys from the country side from different states. Well these guys would show off their marksmanship at the range. I mentioned to one guy that the guys who shoot the best are going to be sent to Vietnam and boy did his miss quite a few targets after that. 😂
