Today I'm still enjoying these cartridges! I have collected over 100 cartridges and over half are pickering/stanton 981hzs to 681eee and 780DQ, 4500Q. D3000 just some I play. These sound better than anything I have tried to play! I was recommended to try a denon DL-103 mc. I didn't like it not even close to the rich warm natural sound of stanton! I also noticed it plays and sounds so much better with the brush on. I also noticed that and very high volume the bass will cause stylus to jump! But this brush design stops all that. These cartridges are great for hi fidelity and all out disco club style rocking it out!! They advertised most of these as dj but they actually are way better sounding that most high end expensive cartridges yes it's true, and I have been studying this for a while, I spent thousands on cartridges! Ortofon 2m blue not even close! Audio Technica vm95ml not even close , the stanton has something on them it's different the music is more realistic and alive. Thank you for sharing this video and yes the brush is important for sound ❤ Scott

Never understood why people place bookshelf speakers on stands so they take up the same space a proper floor standing design. Those Polks are even meant to be wall mounted. Also never heard of "surround monitors, probably some marketing BS, otherwise a nice overall setup.
@EzeeLinux7 күн бұрын
Good sounding "proper floor standing speakers" are hard to find and when you do they are quite expensive compared to the many fine "bookshelf" models on the market. Putting them on stands elevates them to ear level. As for for marketing BS, you're probably right. :)

I have one of these I got for Christmas 1985. It still works. I've found that the Yamaha CD-3X is the dead ringer for the Emerson CD-150A. So I'm willing to bet they were built by Yamaha.
@EzeeLinux7 күн бұрын
Most likely. The Yamahas of that time were better than most other players. This sounds just like them too. :)

@EzeeLinux if you can compare the insides of each player, the circuit boards, transport, everything is an exact match. I've had them side by side.

Even a small music room in the living room is nice. In this day and age the bluetooth small speakers seem to be taking over the role of these mini and micro systems of the 2000's.

@glennk19318 күн бұрын
So sorry that happened. Had my HiFi gear stolen many years ago. I have a Magnavox player too. Not sure of the exact year. It is from the 1980’s. They were, from I understand made by Dutch Philips. It also does not have a remote. It sounds fantastic.

I have a similarly early Realistic CD-2300 whose insides I'd guess are very similar if not identical to that Emerson. I also have an early Magnavox CD player with a somewhat similar button design and layout on the right hand side. The Magnavox is a much larger and higher end player, though.
@EzeeLinux10 күн бұрын
The Realistic was made in Japan and the Magnavox is a re-badged Philips. Both are good machines, too. .Between the two, I'd' bet the Magnavox sounds best. :)

I agree. My first cd player in 1986 was a yamaha. Styling and fonts are very similar. Sadly wore out the spindle motor on that. Had I not tossed it I could probably get a replacement motor for a few bucks these days. But no internet or ebay when it started skipping about 1991. Plus everyone wanted a multidisc changer with remote control by the 90s.

I never even thought about streaming a transport section's output into another player's DAC. I don't think I've ever even seen a whole player with a toslink input.

It's a CD recorder so it has digital and analog inputs. It has come in very handy for dubbing audio from records onto CD. I can use a CD-RW and then rip the audio into a computer for processing and then erase the RW and use it again. :)

ERRATA: I inadvertently said "discs" when I should have sadi "songs" when describing the function of the display. The machine counts down the seconds during pauses between tracks. Also, this machine happly plays pressed CD's up to and over 80 minutes... I was talking about my old Sharp CD player when I was saying the logic wouldn't handle longer discs. Upon listening ;later, I could see how that might be confusing. :)

In fact I’m still using the same CD player I bought in ‘82…..in my opinion cd’s are by far the superior sound quality over vinyl..cassettes … etc…no more worries bout snap crackle & pop & skips wen u buy a brand new record & or used record…plus,,, every time u play a record it’s slowly deterating over time no matter how good your stylus is….cd’s last a lifetime….u can imagine my cd collection as well since buying cd’s since ‘82….

I am German, I grew up in the 1970s and when I was about 17 years old, my Uncle from the USA gave me a very weird shaped Phono cartridge as a present when he visited. It looked super strange. I had never seen such a cartridge before. I mounted it in my "Braun" turntable (it was quite the ordeal, because the thing was so tall) and then I played the "T.V. eye" record by Iggy Pop. I was totally blown away. I can remember it as if it would be yesterday. I was instantly hooked to that 'oomph'. I still have that Stanton cartridge...
