Nice to see a tutorial in standard tuning. Mike Rutherford plays the original in a very odd tuning (E B D F# A E, but as far as I'm aware, he never uses the high E, and only uses the low E to grab the F#m.). That tuning reduces the main riff down to two or three really simple chord shapes, but have fun trying to do anything else with that tuning.

I have to say, even though you taught zilch about how to play it, and you werent walking down a road you were walking about in a carpark by the looks of things, that was the best version of the song you havent actually taught that Ive seen online.😊

I feel like the RE20‘s accessories make it too cumbersome to use, because I wouldn’t want a physically huge setup. And as such, with the official shock mount, it just is too clunky. But hat is just me looking for a rather small setup. Doesn’t make the RE20 a bad microphone. I could think about the Neumann BCM 104, which works by itself. But that’s Shooting above my paygrade. Oh well… good sounding microphones. I mean all of them. And that is surprising, with the RE20 not particularly meant for music production.

so bad I had to stop watching. first we get the standard begging for subs, then we are erroneously told that dynamic range refers to the frequency spectrum instead of loudness. what a clown.

As a DE Razor shaver…where we learn how to shave WTG…XTG…and ATG and letting the razor weight do the work….watching Tom using that disposable razor was hilarious. He looked at times…like a guy killing snakes with a hoe. I can’t believe he shaves like this every day. It looks more like a self sacrifice. Learn how to shave Dude. It will increase your life expectancy by at least 50%.

😂 you’re entitled to your opinion, any alternative recommendations?
@dafxtone Жыл бұрын
@@TomHannay Because i don't like the R121, i have to recommand another mic ? Strange point of view. Anyway, avoid any ribbon mic for guitar, or if you really want one, goes for cheap one, like M260.
@TomHannay Жыл бұрын
@@dafxtone you don’t have to say anything, however you called this mic a piece of mud so I naturally assumed you had a mic that you prefer for guitar
@dafxtone Жыл бұрын
@@TomHannay Of course i have. Dynamics are great for that job, SM57 is the classic and if you search something more polite, SM7b. If you search alternativ characters, try a m88, an e906, a pr20, an i5 or a md421. Even a 214XLS could do a good job on that. You have to search for signature and definition/percussion. Not a mic that eat your signal because of a poor design.
@i.shadrin7 ай бұрын
Yeah, the price is too high. Ribbons are tricky to use, but once you mastered it, 121 is a very nice option tonally and takes eq better than others

Not wanting to pour water on your excellent job, but the guitar tuning shouldn’t be in standard... It needs to be *E B D f# a d* to play it the way Mike Rutherford wrote it. If you watch him demonstrate, in the documentary The Genesis Songbook, how he came up with the riff you can work it out from his hand positions. And he’s stated in interviews that it’s in a ‘funny tuning’
@russell_szabados Жыл бұрын
I didn't know this, I assume we can call this an Open-Bm7 tuning. And now I also have a "new" Genesis video to watch I've never heard of. Thanks for the tuning and dropping that video's name! 👍
