I still remember this programme telecasted around the year 1992 in doordarshan, just a day or two after the passing away of the great "Maharajapuram Santhanam" due to car accident...My father recorded this in a radio cassette & we used to hear this regularly for few years, later it got corrupted...His appearance resemble my grandfather with whom I'm very attached....I even cried at that time...This programme is my 1st ever introduction to carnatic music...I've got very much attached to these songs even at the age of 9....Even till date, he is my favourite Male carnatic vocalist....While I'm typing this, tears got filled in my eyes, severe thrust in my throat due to sorrow!!

Karthik, it sounds like you were just 9 when Santhanam passed away. It is remarkable to hear about the influence. I was in my 20s, doing post graduate research, learning music as well. I remember that day. I got back from my music lesson and parked my motor bike. A friend of mine , who introduced me to Santhanam ( he was an economics researcher), was in the door way. He looked shattered. He asked me, 'did you hear the news'? ( I hadn't, yet). We went to his room. We listened to the radio. That night's all India radio 'national programme of music' was dedicated to Santhanam. They played a live shankarabharanam that was out of this world. Unfortunately, we were too pissed to remember what the krithi was. My friend had recorded the whole programme and I had it copied. I lost it somewhere. I haven't heard it again.

SUDHDHA DHANYAASI or Uayaravichandrika is a symmetric rāgam that does not contain rishabham or dhaivatam. It is a pentatonic scale (audava-audava rāgam in Carnatic music classification - audava meaning 'of 5'). Its ārohaṇa-avarohaṇa structure (ascending and descending scale) is ārohaṇa : S G2 M1 P N2 S avarohaṇa : S N2 P M1 G2 S The notes used in this scale sadharana gandharam, shuddha madhyamam, panchamam and kaisiki nishadham. Udayaravichandrika is considered a janya rāgam of Kharaharapriya, the 22nd melakarta rāgam,though it can be derived from other melakarta rāgams, Hanumatodi, Natabhairavi or Natakapriya, by dropping both rishabham and dhaivatam.
