Massive property tax. 1.8-3% pretty much on home’s market value. Keep in mind homes are around 4-8x of household income.

The average property tax rate in Texas is 1.6%. We do have a general homestead exemption here which lowers the taxable value of your home by up to $100k for school taxes. And remember we have no income tax here

@@kamihallrealestate which communities in North Dallas have less than 1.6% tax rate? I get that there is no state income tax. Its normally on a 1/8 or 1/6 cost of the home. Also you would only pay until you make income. These property taxes are for life of the property. With reassessments every year, you would have to pay on unrealized gains too. Which is crazy. Texas need to go back and think why they became a no state income tax state. Were they planning on getting all the money from property taxes or from oil. Washington state doesn’t have state tax either but tax rate at 1% and assessed values at 60-70% of market value.
