I am in a very different situation then probably 99% of you. I am First Nations selling First Nations products to First Nations people. For example blankets. Beadwork, jewelry etc. as a First Nations member in Canada selling to First Nations people in Canada we are all tax exempt which means I don’t charge Gst or pst to any of my customers. Because I don’t pay tax I can not write off anything in my business period. Now what I want to know is when filing my taxes at the end of the year what income do I report to the government? Taxable income only? I don’t know. If so then that would be $0.

Let's say I bought a stock at a price of $100 per share while I was not a resident of Canada. On the day I attained Canadian residency, the stock's price fell to $10 per share. Later, as a Canadian resident, I sold this stock at $100 per share. How would Canadian tax laws compute the capital gains tax for this transaction? Although I didn't make any profit from this investment-since I initially purchased the stock at the same price I sold it-it seems that I'd still have to pay $45 per share in capital gains tax. Does this scenario result in an overall financial loss due to taxation, even though there was no net gain from the investment?

Could my canadian corporation do work for an American company for 6 months at a time? If so what kind of taxes do I have to pay, do I get double taxation?

No double taxation as they have a treaty. The company will pay corporate tax n employees will pay income tax.

Please tell me if you know about it. I live in Canada for half a year and plan to invest for 10 years and save ETF funds, not to sell, only to save and collect, then I plan to go to another country where there is no capital gain tax, for six months or more (in order to change tax residence) and already in this country to sell assets and take the money to another country is it possible?

Wouldn’t using a holdco to hold rental property result in holdco paying high rate tax on non active rental income (assuming arm’s length rents?)

But what happens to those Canadians living and working in US (like dual citizenship, greencard holders) and filing taxes to IRS annually. Do these Canadians need to file & pay tax in Canada? I know filing annual tax in Canada is mandatory, but paying taxes is the part I am not too clear about. There is an agreement between these 2 countries not to double tax their citizens when they work in the other countries.

Well you'll pay taxes in the United States , report the taxes paid as foreign tax credit in Canada n then possible pay the surplus federal tax in Canada, depending on the rules set in the double taxation treaty.

I have a house owned by me and my sister. Then my inlaw sell there primary residence and buy a new one since they are not approved by mortgage my husband and my name with my mother inlaw is in the title jointly. We always there every weekend. But upon filing tax we put our address to my 1st house. Although my husband t4 is in 2nd house. Can we claim capital gain exemption as primary resident? How can we lessen the capital gain. Jointly is only on title but its really my inlaws primary residence and we will not benefit with the proceed. Thanks

For a pre-construction condo, if you move in and make it your primary residence at occupancy date, and after final closing in a few months, if you sell, would you still pay capital gains tax?
