Thank you for enjoying the video! Glad you were able to learn from the video. For terrazzo floors, divider strips are placed on the floor to provide form and function. Divider strips can come in a variety of materials - aluminum, brass, zinc and even plastic. They are flexible to be bent by the installer on site. Aluminum is cost-effective and easier to grind onto. Brass on the other hand is harder to grind. Aluminum and zinc are similar, zinc tends to shine. They are capable of creating any shape. Even a waterjet can cut metals into intricate patterns and designs for logos or complex artwork. The divider strips are placed according to the design, and glued down. The terrazzo colors are then troweled between the divider strips.

@@Terrazzco Thank you for the quick response! I have a few more questions regarding the dividing strips. You mentioned that plastic can also be used. Since I have a 3D printer, I could create custom shapes with it. Could you tell me which type of plastic would be best for this purpose? Additionally, I’m planning to lay Terrazzo flooring in a 12-square-meter room. What would the mix ratio be for this area, and what materials do I need? Thank you in advance for your help, and I look forward to your response!
@Terrazzco2 ай бұрын
@@Rachid-q2e Regarding plastic strips, tthe dividers are cast from resin. They can range in color from clear, white, black or custom colors. Manufacturers also supply a plastic strip (Manhattan American and National Metal Strips are supplier members of the NTMA). Epoxy terrazzo is a 5:1 ratio, which includes a two-part epoxy resin and aggregates. Other materials may be needed including a moisture mitigation system, crack suppression membrane, leveling fill, primer (depending on which epoxy resin system you use), etc. Given the complexity of the process and the specialized equipment required, it is recommended that epoxy terrazzo installations be carried out by qualified contractors.

I’m very interested in learning more, I’m curious if this is a common technique? Is there a decent demand for terrazzo craftworkers? Do terrazzo finishers usually start off as brick layers or concrete finishers etc?
@Terrazzco Жыл бұрын
In the terrazzo industry, there are many terrazzo systems that can be installed including cement and epoxy terrazzo, each has its own technique. These are performed on a job site. There is also precast terrazzo, which is manufactured within a company's facility and the products and then delivered to a job site for contractors to install. The demand for terrazzo craftsman is projected to increase as more terrazzo is being installed. Terrazzo installers are required to travel across the US. There are terrazzo installation companies in nearly every state. Larger states like New York, California, and Florida have multiple terrazzo companies. In terms of job experience, an individual can take on an apprenticeship or on-the-job training to learn the terrazzo process. A person with masonry skills can find a good career in terrazzo.

Can you use wax on terrazzo floors. I was told no, only a Crete sealer...
@Terrazzco Жыл бұрын
It is advised not to use wax on terrazzo floors. Its tends to create buildup and dull the finish of the terrazzo floor. For terrazzo floors using TERRAZZCO products, we recommend a water-based acrylic sealer (ex. Betco Sure Cure/Untouchable)

What model terrco floor grinder is used, and how long is the epoxy terrazzo is available for grinding.
@Terrazzco3 жыл бұрын
TERRCO has modern models for terrazzo grinders. The one used in this video is an older version. Once epoxy terrazzo is poured, it will cure before the grinding process. This takes approximately 24 hours. Grinder is pushed along a path 4-5 times. Edges can be ground using an edge grinder along places like walls, columns or other areas where a machine cannot reach.

Appreciate the feedback. Terrazzo is a versatile product that can be used for different designs applications today. Epoxy terrazzo is only recommended for indoor settings. To design a terrazzo table for outdoors, cement terrazzo is the ideal application.

Is it okay to use terrazzo tiles in bathrooms and kitchens, or because of its high porosity and high water absorption, which will be difficult?
@Terrazzco3 жыл бұрын
Its acceptable to use either a poured in place or terrazzo tile system for bathrooms and kitchen spaces. Epoxy terrazzo is nonporous and far more water resistant than cement terrazzo. Due to its nonporous properties, a seamless epoxy terrazzo is not only water resistant, but also stain and bacteria resistant. Whereas seamless terrazzo is poured over most substrates, tile will require a setting material during installation, and include the grout lines. Grout lines are one of the major differences between a seamless terrazzo system and a terrazzo tile system. The grout lines increases the overall maintenance of the flooring system and is common place for dirt and bacteria to hide. Poured in place terrazzo is a smooth seamless system where simple sweeping and mopping routine will clean the terrazzo floor.

@Terrazzco3 жыл бұрын
Hi Omar. Concord Terrazzo Company manufacturers epoxy terrazzo slabs. But to answer your question regarding cement terrazzo, The marble chips and/or aggregates are mixed with the binder at a ratio of 2 to 1 (Chips to Binder.) Most specifications will recommend a mix of one bag of portland cement (94 pounds) per 200 pounds of aggregates. During the flooring installation of terrazzo, additional chips may be sprinkled on the surface so that a minimum density of 70% marble chips appears on the finished surface.

Our TERRAZZCO epoxy resin comes is packaged in a Part A resin at 5 gallon pails or 55 gallon drums, and Part B in one gallon cans or 5 gallon pails. (By volume, 5 parts of Part A resin is mixed with 1 part part B hardener).
