I felt my digestive system slowed and finally shut down and as a result I only took a cup of tea in the morning of the summit day. I did not feel any hunger until 8:00 pm the next day. My advice if you can do not eat on the summit day.

Greetings from South Africa. Really enjoyed the lows and highs of your climb. A true adventure and a test of character on Africa's highest mountain. Real ingredients for the hero's journey we often read about in myth - a journey of personal self-discovery. Congrats to all.

Very well filmed and presented. you captured the emotion of it very well. Climbed it with my daughter last year...and as you indicated, summit night is indeed an excercise in brutality. Tough, hard and a long endless slog are some of the less strong words Id use to describe it. You will all be the better for having achieved it. A memory that will stay with you permanently. I was happy to see the emotion of you all at the summit... when planning the trip my daughter had indicated shed probably cry on reaching the top. She may have shed a tear or two.... me, cried uncontrollably like a baby. Tears and minus 20c dont match very well of course. Very well done. Epic adventure for you all... whats next ?????? After my climb I went to Zanzibar to decompress which worked wonderfully well.

I watched a lot of videos on climbing Kilimanjaro and yours was the only one that made me tearful !! Well done. I noticed you didn't use hiking poles. Do you think they would have been a great help especially on the summit day both up and down? I am climbing in January 2024 and am strongly advised to use them.
@thefayecornhill10 ай бұрын
How exciting, best wishes for your climb! I (Faye) used poles almost the whole way. The others used them sometimes and sometimes not. Harry found them a bit annoying to carry, as did Phil. I wouldn’t say they were essential but I kind of liked the routine of having them. Definitely take them and see how you get on. Good luck from us all!

You do a video of what grace and harry packed as we are going on this trip please
@thefayecornhill10 ай бұрын
We should’ve done this, so sorry we didn’t. In all honesty the kids took exactly the same kit as us - the extras I highly recommend are card games and a hot water bottle!

@@thefayecornhill we didnt get to the top as my sister got sick because of the altitude we got up to the wall

Oh I’m sorry to hear that. Hope she’s ok now. Did you attempt summit or get as far as Barranco?
@graememurphy865311 ай бұрын
Well done, we did it a few years ago and had no experience at altitude, we live in Perth Western Australia at sea level so we picked a boutique company and paid a premium for them to just take the 3 of us up there and it was definitely money Well spent. We saw bigger groups that the guides were turning people back on summit night because they were struggling. Your guides definitely put in a big effort to get you there and that's what you want.

I totally agree it’s money well spent having a group of porters just for you… the support they gave us was incredible. Ultimately they enabled us to summit. Congratulations on your efforts 💪🏼

What a super video! Great to see a family accomplish an amazing feat together. Thank you for helping your young adults learn skills that are vital for their future success. Question: did you take any medications for altitude sickness?
@thefayecornhill Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes we took altitude sickness tablets but we are unconvinced that they helped at all. We had to stop because they were really interfering with our sleep. Our head guide said that it happens to a lot of people and recommended us to stop. We felt a lot better.

What a memorable adventure. Thank you for sharing your experience. Those kids are troopers! we're planning a hike for Aug 2024, so it was great to see how it went for you. Curious how cold you thought it got at night at the higher elevations?
@thefayecornhill Жыл бұрын
Oh how fantastic! Good luck, you’ll love it. I’m not 100% sure on temperature but some mornings there was snow on the floor and the tent was iced. Definitely below zero but I’m not sure how far below zero. Have a wonderful time!
