That was absurdly trotted out without a shred of emotion or any understanding of the lyrics. Diabolical.

Soilders Are We Whose lives are pledged to Ireland Some have come from a land beyond the wave Sworn to be free No More our ancient sireland Shall Shelter the despot or the slave Tonight we man the bearna baoil In Erin's cause come woe or weal Mid Cannons Roar and Rifles peal We'll chant A Soilders Song.

Sleeve was different for Ireland. I bought it new in 1988 but I think all other territories had the other one.

Had this Ronco comp, got it from Woolworths i think. Some of the editing in some of the other tracks (Watcher of the Skies by Genesis) was absolutely ABYSMAL! Also i had the YMO album that this comes from on yellowy green vinyl.

I finally found this! This was the closing theme for a jazz show that came on on WDCU-FM in the '80s-'90s in Washington DC, now defunct. The DJ once said that it was by Clifford Coulter and I thought he said it was from the "East Side San Jose" album which I later got but didnt find this song on it. I've listened to various Cliff Coulter songs over the years trying to find it but never found this song until now. This album evidently is a compilation so I still dont know the original LP but no matter. I have lots of complaints about YT but this is what I love YT for. Thanx for posting!

Glad I could help. The original compilation album can be found used fairly easily - www.discogs.com/release/2215855-Various-Lights-Out-San-Francisco-Voco-Presents-The-Soul-Of-The-Bay-Area

Pat does a good job on this. The negativity is coming from the usual lazy armchair quarterbacks who say that he stole from blacks, white shoes, goody goody, etc.
saw these at Leeds Uni / poly loads of times - they were brilliant, great songs, fab band and really good live. they deserved to get more recognition.
