Prime Pete Sampras made quick work of Carlos Moya. The latter could be the closest comparison to Nadal in that era, or even Tomas Muster. But Pete made short work of him too. This will be a great argument that Pete can beat the big 3 like Nadal in Fast courts ‼️💯

As I remember, Moya was first top player to use Babolat racket brand
@vonex_trader91818 күн бұрын
That Babolat racket was 100 Sq inch and Moya is 6'2. I just can't believe Pistol Pete beat him in straight sets with a PS 85⁉️

What if… Becker didn‘t loose against Moyà in 1R in five as the defending champion!? I think Becker played Sampras in this final instead. Maybe Becker looses too but Becker didnt loose his Motivation getting No 1 again. I think we would have had a wonuderful rivalry between Becker and Sampras in 97… but only what if…

Such potential for Roddick, a shame he couldn't deliver. That's the year Hewitt won the US open then the twin towers went down the following day.

Sampras certainly better and stronger tennis player than Muster, but not on clay... Sampras was an explosive player, but he needed to close the point quickly. In long rallies, he generally lost the point.

Muster couldnt flatten his ground strokes when needed....he hardly hit an ace...his game was made for clay courts....he could have won many points in this match if he had the ability to hit the ball on the rise ala agassi..

Looks like when they got to that third set tiebreaker Federer had had enough, shifted into his top gear and wasn't trying to endear himself to anyone. I think it secretly made him uncomfortable to see and feel how much the crowd liked Santoro's game.

If Sampras had not suffered from Thalassemia, which is a blood disorder that prevents your body from producing enough hemoglobin, he would have won more slams and tournaments.
