You would think it would be a simple thing to turn off like your water main
@ncprepper100
@ncprepper100 3 ай бұрын
It is definitely easy to turn off. The issue is the possibility of sparks when you go to turn off the gas. The tool is especially made to turn of gas mains. This tool was issued to me when I was a CERT team member in the town I used to live in. We were volunteers for the local fire department.

@ncprepper100 well, I just ordered supplies to try this. It all should arrive tomorrow. One question can I use SEA SALT extra fine ground ? And if yes would it be same amount of salt to water?
@ncprepper100
@ncprepper100 3 ай бұрын
@@grammyC70 It should be the same. I try to use salt without any additives like anti-caking agents to keep the additives out. But, it should be fine and the amounts should be the same for that salt as well.
@grammyC70
@grammyC70 3 ай бұрын
@ncprepper100 thanks for the reply! The sea salt I have doesn't say any additives, just 100% sea salt. If I can find pickling salt in a store, maybe I will just purchase that instead. I'm excited to try this out. Thanks again for sharing . Wish me luck 🤞 🤣

After they ferment 3 weeks and are ready to put in the fridge do you drain the remaining water?
@ncprepper100
@ncprepper100 3 ай бұрын
After the three weeks or so are up, you can take off the metal ring and the Fermalid. After that, I just use a plastic lid that fits the wide mouth jar, put it straight in the refrigerator, and keep the garlic in the water. The fermentation will slow down quite a bit, but will not stop completely. The bonus is that you will always have a "mother" to kick start your next fermentation batch!

Yeah, as others have said, the redundancy and "knick knacks" are overboard a bit. But let me be clear, I'm in AZ with a 40 mile desert hike from work to home and I'd be lost in NC so take my comments with a grain of salt. In my humble opinion though, about a third of that stuff you could do without. I'm also a bit of a minimalist when it comes to this stuff. My MO in my neck of the woods is light and fast. One good knife, the Moira, and the swiss army knife are probably all you need. All the little extra survival kits, altoids boxes, fishing kit, bags of this and that, I would probably ditch too. I mean you're trying to quickly get home, when are you realistically going to be fishing? The handcuff key is good, but its useless buried in your bag. The bag and whoever handcuffed you are probably gone. Yes, fire would be very important especially if you needed to overnight in NC in the winter but, Man, you got a lot of fire stuff. I'd ditch everything but the wetfire, lighter, storm matches, and ferro rod. I use alcohol pads as a backup tinder too but they do double duty in my first-aid kit. Your one good compass and maybe one backup is more than enough. I think I counted 6 compasses in there. One commenter said it's a good idea to make a list and I would agree. That's usually where you figure out you have 6 whistles, 4 razor knives, and so on. Again, this is me in AZ thinking light and fast so I'm not hating on any of your stuff, everyone's situation is going to be different. Just some food for thought.

Liked. Good ideas. Planning mine now. A few questions. 1. Do you think it beneficial to use a fuse block / panel in lieu of the single inline fuse or is it overkill 2. Is that a repurposed plastic tool case? 3. Any reason the wiring from the scc couldn't have been directly wired to sla battery? Love the vid and ingenuity.
