Thank you for the amazing video of the Long Tom pass and the experience you give us with your videos of Mountain passes of South Africa . Interesting at 2:30s you talk about a Portuguese mine that dates back to 1658 , I wonder if they came with Jan in 1652 and traveled thus far from Cape Town in the 6 years . . 😅

Richmond has some great lodges on the River. A river runs through it😊 from Kwagangesh, Hella hella, Phateni all the way to Shiyamphala in Nhlazuka. Such a beautiful river. River rafting at Nyala pans❤❤

The philip tunnel was built by the Khoi people under direction of William Enowy Philip ,son of Dr John Philip. The work on the tunnel was started in April 1843 and completed in August 1844.The person who struck the last blow to effect the break through was Jan Bosman(Khoi) and works foreman was Daniel Antoni(Khoi).descendants of whom are still resident in Hankey.

This pass is the easy section of the Rhodes Trail Run [run from Rhodes, up to Lesotho View, across to Tiffendel and then winds it's way down the pass). It is run in winter, so l have never experienced the summer colours, which are spectacular to see, thank you.

Look at the map at the beginning of the video and in the description it says "This dramatically scenic and very steep pass connects the village of Rhodes with the now defunct Tiffindell Ski Resort."

In the 1960's, this was a very narrow tar road and our family had one or two interesting experiences going around that 170° bit. 😂😂 My dad sometimes was a bit too enthusiastic.

Western kids are not capable to build smth like that if it is not a Lego. Like my opinion western kids are completely not capable to be creative with a limited resources. In 100 years we will see that Africa will be doing better innovations than Developed World.

We did the pass on 19 December 2023. It was completely covered in thick mist, could not see 20m ahead of us. Very disappointing. But we enjoyed Rhodes and the rest of the route to the Eastern Cape.
