One of the best videos out there on serving fundamentals. The arrows are so helpful. Thank you.

There is another important advantage of the eastern grip: you can hit with a straight arm, as roger does. and therefore you have more leverage and power. if you watch sinner or djokovic, who use semi-western, they hit with a semi-bent elbow, resulting in less leverage.

Inside out swing path is something you don't have to think about because it is due to hip rotation.

How would you suggest drilling for this correct movement?
@jflow5601
@jflow5601 3 күн бұрын
You get power from the release of the wrist just prior to striking the ball. The racket head accelerates and catches up with the wrist and you get the whipping motion through the ball. The arm does internal rotation as well during this time. In my opinion
@jflow5601

So it looks like the wrist starts releasing (straightening out) and slowing down to allow the racket head to catch up prior to making contact with the ball. In addition the arm starts inner rotation just prior to contact.

While I’m big on serving being like throwing, generally you’d point the label away from you, not toward you when throwing.

Hello James, excellent instructions. I am watching few serve videos from different instructors and one motion I would like to clarify. Does the racket need to go over the head (i.e. hitting the Christmas hat) or does the racket goes behind the head when you are moving the racket from right to left as shown in your video. Thanks

For one Federer is the worst to show this. His flat and topspin are almost identical. It’s like Sampras it’s very hard to tell what serve they are gonna use.

Also, these movements are occurring in a split second, so how do you suggest drilling for the correct right to left movement?
@SteveB-he1bu
@SteveB-he1bu 9 күн бұрын
Confused about something. Does the "right to left" movement end at the trophy position when the elbow angle is most closed ("hand over bicep")? And after that position is reached, what initiates the racquet drop and is the drop active (like the right to left movement) or passive as a result of leg drive, hip rotation, etc? Thank you.

It's a nice forehand but highly doubt Roger is concerned with force of gravity & the axis of earth's rotation at that specific moment! 😂😂

leading with the elbow is not the problem. the problem is that many people have an open face when the elbow leads.

Not pointing out his world class leg drive is criminal. And instead of the “huge finish”, his racket motion from below the knee to above his head would point out the reason for the top spin he puts on the ball

What about the racquet drop, it’s dropping on the other face rather than dropping on the edge. Is it ok to drop on the face … when I filmed myself even I was dropping on the back face of the racquet and started to correct it but it does not feeling right for me … I don’t know if should worry about it as long as I am leading with high elbow and leading with front edge upwards.

Rec player can’t do that, simply because they don’t coil enough. Without a good coil where’s the power gonna come from with that tiny racket take back?

Low to High is just standard Topspin, but to get more and extra it is about lift from the legs and a wrist radial deviation type racket move without the roll.
