How do you know how many turns the coil had? It seems to me it's difficult to achieve the same characteristics of the original if it does not have the same turns. Do you know previously?. Nice work.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I have no idea how many turns the original had. Just went for a reasonable dc resistance for a rather weak vintage style single coil, can’t remember but I recon it would be about 5.0 k. You are right it would not sound like the the original but the client just wanted a working pickup of average output. He was happy.😊

do you know if Hofner Verithin pickups are wound the same as Hofner 172/173/175/176 pickups? Are they interchangeable? I have two from a Verithin and might want to use them in a future Hofner solidbody project.

Palfray Guitars do you think the steel rods help the neck? I have worked on Harmony's in the past. Think if I took steel rod out of the neck and glued it and clamped it down it wood work better. I noticed those steel rods are not glued.

Hi Brian, I don’t think the one in this example was much good, seemed too thin, and unlike a proper truss rod was not under tension.The two carbon fibre rods I put in did the job really well. Ray

Interesting video! It’s great to see a good U.K. luthier at work, most KZbin videos of this kind seem to come from the USA. How about a few more?

Fab - but I understand the Hofner 511 style pickup was created as a humbucker and there should be a second coil around the square pole pieces? I'm sure it sounds great though - your work looks tidy! Matt

Thanks for the excellent, very precise tutorial. Just about to do the same job on a '57 Hofner President. New fret tang width however is slightly fatter than the old and they wont easily tap in to the very thin slots. Do you suggest cutting wider fret slots? I've only removed the first seven frets, hoping to do a just partial refret but may now have to do the whole neck. Any suggestions?
@palfrayguitars2916
@palfrayguitars2916 7 жыл бұрын
Robert Ayton glad you got something out of it. In answer to your guestion, yes cut the fretslots wider and also go through the binding because that is hard and could crack if you force a fret tang in.
