I saw him live in NYC New Year’s Eve 1989-90 at the Ritz. The guy was mind blowing He sat on the edge of the stage ,cross legged and played “Rude Mood”…,effortlessly ❤

I've heard and seen guitar players that are good but SRV spent the time to be the best guitar player that he could be, and then he became the best! I'm in awe of his talent.

SRV obviously is just a fking monster up there but that band is 100% savages. Every dude up there is at the pinnacle. They border upon precognitive. It’s stunning musicianship and it’s not even the gd performance…..it’s frigging sound check!

ANYONE that thumbs downed this vid needs some Serious Psych Help!!! Nobody likes soundcheck,but it doesn’t seem to bother him that much.
@DocsjeffАй бұрын
I’ve felt the same way he looked when he first walked out……after a REALLY GOOD NIGHT BEFORE. His vocal must have been in Great shape because most vocalists won’t hardly even speak the day of a gig,much less sing with that much power.
@DocsjeffАй бұрын
You could probably remove the frets off of that strat and have him place his finger on whichever string and whichever position on the neck and he could tell you the note itself,the one’s directly above and below it as well.

I remember doing some leave time on lake Buchanan the first time I heard SRV...Well the experts in the music industry said his music just wouldn't make it. To wich my reply was ya he's going to be famous worldwide one day experts (right) seams like it's always the same story the experts say and the peasants bail theme out and then they take the credit and talk about how wonderful they are.

Saw Stevie and his band with my then girlfriend Virginia and a friend who got us tickets for the Clash at SB Bowl. This was my treat. He played at Campbell Hall in UCSB. We had second row. The show was not sold out. It was mid 1980’s and he hadn’t exploded yet. I am a guitar player and into the blues so was excited to hear him play. He was amazing! Played behind the back, behind his head, with his teeth. Did many show stopping trick with the guitar. He had a slow blues number that he did and sat on the edge of the stage, we were so close to him. It was memorable moments. Just an incredible talent. Many of the good ones go early, one of the cruel things of life. Travel well Stevie . .

Soundcheck achieves two distinctly different purposes. 1. Technicians get to find their settings for a good sound later in the show as well as to push the equipment to show levels to verify all works as needed. A technical exercise. 2. Artists get to shake loose the cobwebs of another traveling night, to confirm the baseline of their abilities, and even try out an idea they had on the bus/plane. A musical exercise. I really enjoy soundcheck, always recording it.

Imagine this.....he looks like half drunk, just awake, tired and in a cow fair coat wondering why he is there.......and he pulls out this incredible warm up tune for a sound check. Now can you imagine the performance?
