You're absolutely right, there need to be places to work close by and especially within walking distance.

My grandfather spent about 25 years in there till he died in 1956. I was never allowed to see him because of the silly rule keeping children under ten out. So where do I get permission, I would like to tour before it is wasted?

Oh man, the amount of disrespect is amazing. And yes, you are correct, they probably would have stolen the mailbox as well or damaged it somehow ( 21:32 ). As for "SOME" not all people, stealing things...?? Those type of people would steal ugly from a snake just for the fun. No respect anywhere any more.

Girardville (nicknamed Guntown)[3] is a borough in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania, United States, 58 miles (93 km) northwest of Reading. Anthracite coal deposits are in the region. Coal-mining provided employment and incomes for many of the 3,666 people who lived there in 1900. In 1910, 4,396 individuals called it home. The population was 1,519 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1832 and is named after Stephen Girard[4] of Philadelphia, who purchased large land holdings in and around the town. It was incorporated as a borough in 1872.

Wow! A lot different than I remember! Used to take this route when going to Reading if we were going to stop in Mahanoy City to see my ex wife's Aunt. What a difference 30 plus years can make? I gotta make a broad spectrum tour of that region now that I have some time off. I work at the Piper Aviation Museum in Lock Haven. We reopen in March.

Nothing beats making first path in the snow on the trail. Also, these mine fires look a lot worse than Centralia ones! Shocked nobody investigating these and doing some kind of remedy projects.
