Nobody believes me cuz I didn't habe a camera running at the time ... but I've driven out a road and then on the way back , not ten minutes later , there's a tree across the road ! And it wasn't storming or particularly windy at the time.. just really wet out. If I hadn't had a chainsaw and a winch I'd probably still be walking out ! LOL

Love the videos! Been using them as a guide of which trails to start with when my rig is done this week. Are there any groups in this area that go out that you know of?
@thesboard093 ай бұрын
I don't know any of them personally , but I have run across a couple from time to time. I'm not consistent enough for a group LOL.. I never know when I'm going to be able to go until the moment I head out... makes it tough to plan anything ( and makes me seem antisocial ) There's a facebook page called Paducah Jeep club that has some posts about it sometimes .. there's another page 'tween the rivers ... I'm sure there are local groups and I know there are several people that are out there a lot ( Dusty Harrel on Facebook does some really cool photography out there) .. Going alone may not be the best idea , depending on what you're up to , but I'm usually solo .. circumstances are what they are ... but keep in mind that there's sketchy cell service , lots of muddy roads and deep mudholes... and worst of all , trees fall across the roads a lot ! More than it seems they should , but if you head out a one way in - one out road and a tree happens to fall across the road .... even if you carry a chainsaw it can be pretty dangerous to clear a path...( yes , I know small trees are pretty easy , but big , big trees can be unpredictable ) ... I doubt any of that was helpful , but maybe someone knows more ?

I actually grew up camping here. Back then it was called Rushing Creek campground, some people called it Skunk Hollow. My husband went and visited it about 3 days ago. I hadn't been there since it closed. It has grown up so fast. It looks like its been abandoned for much longer than it really has! I have photos of my family camping here. It actually closed in the early 2000's. It's so incredibly sad it's closed. It brought back so many fond memories, seeing as many of my relative I camped with are now gone as well. It was such a nice campground. Great video!
@thesboard094 ай бұрын
Thanks....I bet it was really nice at one time.. I never got to see it when it was open . The day we did the video I had been trying to pass 2 kidney stones . I had a 5mm and a 6mm stuck and thought maybe a good walk would break them loose ... It didn't work , don't ever do that ! Then had ankle surgery a month later to replace two screws that I apparently bent somehow ? I was hurting pretty bad so we weren't able to do it justice...there was a lot we never got to see. I would have liked to have made it down to the spring and to the boat ramp on Rushing Bay , but it just wasn't in the cards that day. I was told there had been a baseball field and several buildings built right before it closed as well.... but there was no sign of a ball field and very little left of any buildings... plenty of trash piled in the parking lot though....

I was thinking this is rushing creek but where did the name cedar bluff campground come from? Also closing in the 80's? I'm confused because I camped at rushing creek into the 2010's.
@tracysoule32663 ай бұрын
I get why they called it skunk hollow. We took a day walk through there in the off season and everywhere we turned there were skunks and each one started following us. Before long there were 15 + fluffy skunks with different patterns even solid white ones started chasing us. We were panicking when the groundsman opened his camper door and shouted they were not trying to get us. They are tame and want feeding. Upon seeing him they left us and scurried his direction 😂.

It's a good one .... you can take 131 all the way in or take 129 to 312 and get there from the other side of the creek . 312 , is actually a good road compared to 131... 131 is pretty rough after all this rain . If you go 312 , 131 is easy to miss , it doesn't look like much from that side... and if you come in off of 129 ... right past the 131 intersection you'll run into the same creek again, that you have to drive through..so if you drive through a creek you went too far LOL... but it's a nice place to cool off as well.... My personal favorite in LBL is on 145 ( but it's " popular ").... it has a couple spots to get in the creek and they're concrete ... and a lot deeper ... one has a rope . There used to be a couple spots on 141 as well....

Actually none of that story is true. Never happened. The whole story was made up tp promote a small time movie . Anyone who's spent any amount of time in LBL can tell you the person who wrote the " Jan Thompson " letters definitely didn't know anything about the place... and even less about Grand Rivers. I've had the oportunity to talk to several people who lived Between the Rivers and none of them ever heard of any of this before the " beast " story .. so no , there weren't stories about it before... One more thing , in the Hopkinsville paper , there was an article . In the article , Lee Vervoort , who wrote the whole thing , admitted to making it up. He said " the people who lived there were jealous because they didn't think of it first ." The whole thing is a made up story , that doesn't make sense if you've been there , to promote a movie that still hasn't happened...
