you might want to optimize your backpressure as well first. This can be done by making a 70% shot and then up the backpressure and start weighing the shots until there are no big increaments.this will optimize your compction. All in all nice vid.

Mechanical problems with the mold: vents too deep, shut off's damaged. Of course those aren't process related.

Looks like a Whitlock Dryer on this machine. I worked in injection molding from 1972 to 74. Good explanation of flash. No computers in those days. hand held calculators and timer adjustments. Worked everthing from line super to QC and production supplies and scheduling. Small company and recession of 74 took us out. GTE bought us and let the front office go but kept the plant workers. Should have not taken the promotion 2 months before being sold.

does injection pressure increase the pressure at the cavity when the cavity is not filled? My understanding is that until the mold is filled completely and plastic can move around, the injection pressure will be higher than the pressure inside the cavity. When you say injection pressure, where and how is it being measured?

The saddest thing is that eDART is retiring after 20 years in the industry and in 2024 there are still companies around the World like mine that have no idea about it and no injection mold has even a single sensor placed in the cavity...

Answer.. parts out of spec?
@rjg5 ай бұрын
The Answer to parts being out of spec has as many answers as the universe has start. To boil it down , one or more of the 4 plastics variables are not where they were when the parts were good. Then that is caused by the condition of the plastic resin or one of the hundreds of machine settings. If you have some specific situations , we could offer some quality consulting to help come to a solution.

Thanks for useful sharing. How can we measure melt temperature with IR thermometer?
@rjg5 ай бұрын
You can purge out the machine and aim the laser at the purge. The downside to this is the setting for the reflectivity of the plastic. The IR gun can give a reading that is not always 100% accurate (although it is often close enough). The positive of using an IR gun is the safety and repeatability of that technique.

Definitely some good ideas but this only covers the basics and i know you said simple but the mold design is pretty simple. Some molds take a very long time to properly clean especially if there are multiple injection units and many different core positions to be set once clamped depending on how often you are cycling a press too it will not matter how often you try to clean the tool to prevent corosion or rusting is a definite enivitablity at that point you need to have a good tool shop to properly pm the mold internally there are just some things you cannot prevent due to mold design and your just going to have to pull the mold to be worked on
@andrewcampbell74995 ай бұрын
To add to its yes very basic molds can be cleaned very quickly with cleaners but some moldshave very deep cavities and intricate slides or cams that may take a great deal of effort to clean around without taking the mold apart don't know much about the mold but it looks like a thin wall type of mold can really see the A half of the mold so it's difficult to tell but looks like a beginner mold to me
@andrewcampbell74995 ай бұрын
The best way I've found to clean difficult molds, that have alot of gassing in the vents is to first dry wipe the mold than use and cleaner like acetone, 99 percent alcohol is the best, 70 can work but not that great, always put alot of effort into cleaning the vents always clean as close to the cores as possible If you touch them but they may need polished after if the leaders pins slides cams horns or wear plates are black dry or corroded due to cycling its best to grease the to prevent mold protects or ejector faults, depending on the mold or type of material running through it saliva can remove some gassing pretty easily if there's significant building up the vents you can clean it with acetone depending on the mold and scrap anything you can't get out with brass or even more delicate molds sometimes wood also wood works very well with polishing compound after you clean the vents really good sometimes polishing them is good to prevent future buildup in the mold there's alot of different ways to do it suppose it depends on the person but the simple mold you sprayed cleaner in alot of people would be absolutely terrified to do that

Great video. Does using larger diameter channels help or hinder If you have a large mold with 1/2npt lines and 1"npt baffles, vs 3/8"npt channels and 3/4" baffles. Some of my customers want bigger holes but if you can't feed it with proper gpm/pressure, the flow may not be strong enough. I notice on North American molds, it's always big lines, 500 series fittings and 3/4 id hose. Then I saw Euro and Asian molds of similar size and it's 10mm water lines with smaller clear plastic hose as they can't use same type of hose we have in NA
@rjg5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and your kind words. To answer your question regarding 1/2npt lines and 1"npt baffles, vs 3/8"npt channels and 3/4" baffles, it truly depends on gpm/pressure that you mentioned. It would be helpful to know the gpm/pressure that the mold temperature control unit is dispersing at a minimum, and this can be achieved by in-line flowmeters similar to what Smart Flow offer. If the gpm continues to rise the larger 1/2npt hole could provide more adequate heat transfer. On the other hand, if the gpm is reduced when using the 1/2npt hole it could result in much lower heat transfer. NA vs Euro/Asia mold cooling can drastically differ in channel size, as mentioned about bigger is not always better unless you have the GPM and Pressure to back up the larger lines. A constant Depth, Diameter, and Pitch for colling lines also plays a role in effective heat transfer, so it is recommended that mold filling simulation is preformed by a qualified individual utilizing the mold attributes such as cooling line placement and mold material to understand the best scenario for mold cooling.

Video is very helpful, thanks. I have a question though, Duponts nylon guide says to use the maximum pressure for the holding stage. This bottoms out the screw though. Or if I increase the shot size too far I get flash. Should I not use such a high pressure?
