Sounds like a combo of "Hold Back the Rain" and "Shadows on Your Side" ... I love it ❤

This song popped up randomly and I began listening, thinking "how did I miss this 80s gem?" I really thought it was one of their earlier tunes that I'd somehow never heard! Well done, Duran Duran 👍🏻❤👌🏻🤘🏻🎵
@kbc163Ай бұрын
I thought the same thing. This sounds like it came from the "Rio/Seven and the Ragged Tiger" era. Just brilliant. ❤
@ntom5579Ай бұрын
@@kbc163 exactly, yes! I thought maybe it was a track that somehow didn't make its way onto the Rio album (or yes, SATRT!) but one that DD recorded in those days ❤

Same. The thumbnail (and the "night version" tag) reinforced this impression even before I listened

This is pretty much the only song I'm listening to in the car. The bassline carries the whole energy of the song. It's absolutely awesome. I always loved this as a kid, but have rediscovered it via the incredible bassline. Thanks for putting this comprehensive video together. Really awesome to hear all the little details in the finger plucking and picking. Cheers!

The bass guitar sound out of the normal song ( the plain song which is wonderful and a blessing to listen ) that s not John Taylor ? Not even a real bass guitar sound.It s so artificial that I was not able to disregard. How come no one mentions this?
@HazelSolitaire9 ай бұрын
His little tugged hammer-ons here and there are as electric as it gets for a bass player. Taylor's a huge inspiration for me when it comes to that

I adore this song - my own home "remix" uses more of the haunting musical bridge you hear at 2:30 which is fabulous - I start the song with that as an intro, and then use the bridge twice before kicking into Simon's chorus again. (I also love the bass note at 3:13 - doesn't everybody?)

I know it's a long shot, but I do hope that while they are working with Andy before he passes away, that they would come back to this song and refine it.

Thank you for this careful analysis. I can offer this: 1. Gallops---needed in Planet Earth & HBTR---Mark at Talking Bass has a Steve Harris tutorial on Run to the Hills --- practicing that will develop the finger plucking to perform the "gallops" at tempo -- in a surprisingly short time. 2. HBTR "pops" can be played live with ease, even though on the record they are clearly overdubbed. 3.) The HBTR bass parts sound to me like a different bass sound altogether; not from being played with a pick. I appreciated hearing the soloed bass track, because the record has so much synth that it's difficult to distinguish the sounds. The solo'ed bass track here sounds more midrangey (like Rio) than the verses, irrespective of whether plucked or picked. Lastly, I struggled with the pentatonic riff in White Lines---even watching Doug Wimbish at half speed. I was relieved to see JT playing it with a pick (live 2016.) Picks on bass certainly have their place and hats off to Carol Kaye. Just not my thing. Thanks again.

Most incredible thing about this song is that it has the great uplifting Chorus but no Duran harmonies which is so rare, yet it holds itself as a fabulous Duran song and I have been a huge fan since 1979......melody from Simon as JT commented 'brought the song home' as they were going to toss it

I'm not very familiar with the album track so I'm not sure what you changed, but it sounds like it could have been released this way, so good work. (I'm a HUGE fan of early Duran Duran, up to and including "Liberty", plus a handful of songs from 93 and 97, just not a fan of much after that.)

Should have been released on the Rio album and a main single as well .. another error in judgement by the music industry executives .. its such a catchy up beat positive feel good moment that casts me back in time to a friend I had a major crush on .. she never knew how much I liked her .. this song said it all
