Interesting. I'll need to check the range of the de-buffs in some areas if I only have to consider ground level. Thanks!

Came across this, I just wanna point out that you should learn or look up liquid lock to isolate gas better than using doors since doors are not 100%. You can also use double liquid lock to isolate temperatures but still have access in and out to hot areas. I hope this helps your playthrough
@ivellios_2 күн бұрын
I did remember the liquid locks from prior playthroughs, I just never got around to testing ifthat was still a thing after all the updates. :D Thanks for the confirmation and idea to also temp lock. I need to take care of that Steam vent for sure!

11:56 You really need to increase your oxygen production, a dublicant consumes 100g/s. (a bit less if they are frequently in low oxygen areas, but definitely not with atmo suits) A single pipe carries 1000g/s of oxygen. You need 15 * 100 = 1500 oxygen, produce at least 50% oxygen more 12:52 Dupes have a path around the atmo suit checkpoint. Some skip the docks and then dump the suit at other checkpoint. Make sure the only way out of the base is via the checkpoint, then use the "deliver suit"option of the docks to restore the missing suits (Later in the video you fixed the hole) You base health is critical at the moment, because of the major oxygen, minor heat and minor power problems.

22:58 A common build is 3 water tanks in a clorine room, with some automation (a not gate an a liquid shutoff) to prevent the the first tank from draining under 90%. Because of the way how a water tank works, chlorine is able to affect it. Note that germs are only an issue if the water ends up inside a water cooler or used for other dupe activities (like a research station). food poisoning in the air is fine

Great tip! I'll look into adding this to the build.

10:30 growing seeds can be done with a critter called a pip. They like to find seeds on the floor and plant them 11:15 Wall paper is only needed for the "private bedroom" room (see the F11 menu). You rooms are not big enough to be a private bedroom. Also note that pixel packs are recommended over wallpaper because of their way higher decor value which provides a significant morale boost 21:51 What is happening here is dupes are leaving the base via the other atmo suit gates, then coming back vi that checkpoint. Put the checkpoint in vacancy mode, so they can only enter the base if there is space for an atmo suit.
@ivellios_11 күн бұрын
I didn't know that about the Pip. I'm afraid that plan wouldn't work anyway, since it's too hot for the Weezeworts. Good tip on the bedrooms. I'll adjust them if they need to be bigger. I finally figured out about the vacancy setting. I assumed that would be the default setting. :D Thanks for the tips!
@alonelypenguin522911 күн бұрын
@@ivellios_ Google search for 'pip planting'. The rules are fairly straightforward. It's good to keep a few pips in your base in a small Nature Reserve of Thimblereed. Eating it increases the chance to lay/hatch into Cuddle Pips, which can give a sizeable mood boost to your dupes. They're also cute.

22:12 you can connect high wattage wires directly to power plugs, like onto the atmo suit docks.

One way to clean the water of germs is to make a room with chlorine gas and pipe the water into the liquid storage tanks. Chlorine will kill the germs fast but does take a little time so maybe have multiple tanks as a buffer

Nice looking base man, I can tell you put a lot of effort into making the dupes feel happy! The reason your base is so hot is cause of that steam vent, it dumps a lot of heat out and produces hot water which you are pumping through out your base using regular pipes instead of insulated ones.

That's a good point. I didn't think of insulating those as well.

Could have paused gatherers. They do nothing. Beavers prioritize eating anything before berries. So those stocks were full and gatherers idle. ( and chessnuts are not used yet ). Edit : Since stuck because no builder, could have paused alot more. Temporarily, a farm ( stocks full ), most or all woodcutters ( stocks full ), put 4 builders in the district center. Fun game.

That makes sense. I'm learning a lot as I go and I'm sure a lot will change with Update 6. To my detriment in early game mechanics, I'll often play with a late game mentatlity and could improve on that for sure! I try to do as little micro-management as I can. Usually my goal is to build sustainably and as automated as I can, even if that means some are standing around doing nothing.

P.S. : Tips for beginners, but feel free to ignore and focus on doing what's fun to you rather than efficiency. Set work at 19 hours early in game. They have no well-being stations to visit anyway and will sit around bored untill sleeping. You can lower work hours later to let them visit attractions to increase their health. Set 4 workers in town center and put priority to -1 ( if there is a missing worker, it will be taken from district builders ). Then select which other jobs to pause to free workers if needed. Initially, build your first base closer to district center, otherwise your early precious work hours will be spent walking to work, walking to go eat, walking to go drink. You can scrap and rebuild elsewhere later, don't hesitate to rebuild your base once you have a forester for wood income. 1 water pump is easily enough for 15 beavers if close enough to town center. You can lay the foundation of the second pump immediately but pause construction if you prefer ( wood is precious at start ). Your first dam must use terrain elevation to keep water irrigating where crops and pumps can tap into the reservoir. After a few cycles you will need your pumps to tap into a different reservoir than your crops ( or store enough that you can pause pumps during drought ), least your pumps leave no water for the crops to stay green. Put many woodcutter flags, they are free. Pause a few as you need workers elsewhere or all grown tress are cut. Oh and trees will survive many days without water before they die. However the seedlings won't grow while dry. For much later in game : The maximum irrigation zone needs a 3x3 pond or a 3-wide canal. A one tile water block alone won't irrigate much. 2 full tiles elevation above water won't get much irrigation. 3 full tiles above won't get any. After your farming beavers planted their carrots, they have 4 days of doing nothing as it grows. Pause farm so they go build and cut trees. Hurry to get science points and a few planks to build a forester hut to plant trees, or you will soft-lock yourself without enough wood to develop. Plant trees that give alot of wood, ex : oak, maple. Maby a patch of pine too ( later you need resin ). Birch are pretty but don't produce enough wood. Pay attention to flags with beavers not doing anything. Ex : all berry bushes are harvested, all grown trees are cut, etc. Pause those so they go work elsewhere. They won't display a "nothing to do in range icon" if there are live berry bushes or tree seedlings, but they can't do anything with them yet.
