Like the whole climber/platform concept as I just bought a new Lonestar saddle to hunt with. I have been using climbing steps Millenium hangon treestand, And Hawk helium sticks, also Summit Viper Ultra Climber,... I purchased each of those much cheaper than this unit. Would love to have it but find it too pricey. And a fellow Ohioan that also hunts WNF. With that being said nice job on the design and build though.

Excellent job explaining this. I’ve been saddle hunting for 3 years now and was just telling my friends that there should be a climbing platform!!! I believe you have the best looking and thought out system. I look forward to ordering one for next season!!

I am using the Twisted Iron Pac Rat to Pac mine in the woods. I use the Pac Rat to hold all my ropes and as a large dump pouch. When I get up the tree I strap the Pac to the tree for the knee pad feature and all my stuff is inside the Pac.

This seems like a very cool system. I know NOTHING about rappelling but this seems pretty clever.
@hashtagjustadad511017 күн бұрын
I would’ve liked to see a closeup of the rappelling rig(sounds like you call it a Virgo?). I am very intrigued in the entire setup. I have never hunted from a saddle. I do love the idea of a climbing platform but i also wish the platform folded flat. I own a HAWK climber (they don’t make it anymore) that folds flat and I love that feature about it. It is very sturdy. A similar system would make this platform elite IMHO. Just advice here. Add a link in the description. I do love supporting smaller companies and i want to see yall succeed!!!!

Why use the Aider at all. Just hook the platform on the tree at mid thigh level and step up on it. Then attached the repel rope to the tree as high as you can reach and start climbing away. No need for the Aider.

Is the 15 inch loop easier to pull off the tree then a quick link?
@PantherplatformsАй бұрын
I’ve not used a quick link for a long time but if I remember correctly I think it is because the quick link creates a divot in the rappel rope from hanging on it for some time. Then when you go to pull it, it gets slightly caught on that divot

Run a paracord drop line to your waist to platform because you will drop the platform. It sucks. Good stand build.

Out of the 6 people that have ran this platform for 5 years we have never lost the platform, but in the event we did we could just rappel down to get it, easy peasy

New guy question. Do you need to tether the base to your saddle ( so you don't lose it down the tree) and if you rappel down how do you retrieve the rope, won't it get hung up on all the branches ? Thanks!

Good Stuff, some day can you post how you carry everything in on your pack frame etc. thanks.
@transplantyooper3 ай бұрын
I have a similar setup but use a Madrock Safeguard. I would strongly recommend adding a friction hitch above the Trango as a backup in the event the mechanical fails or there's a panic situation. As you climb the tree and take up the slack, the Trango will tend the friction hitch. When repelling down, you don't need to tend the tag end of the rope. You slide the hitch down the rope with your right hand while driving the Trango with your left. Something happens, let go of the hitch and it will bind. All-in-all a simple and safer setup over a traditional tether. If anything ever happens like the platform slips or fails, you can get to the ground safely.
@Pantherplatforms3 ай бұрын
Great suggestions!! and thanks for your comment, although the manufacturer does not recommend backing up the belay device it would be a wise choice. I personally choose to not back up my vergo but that is my choice. I have full trust in my system, could I get hurt or die, absolutely that is a risk I take every time I leave the ground for any system I choose. I’m more worried about inspecting my rappel rope and saddle and bridge before backing up my vergo. If something is wrong in thoes areas it won’t matter how much I back it up. Just my thoughts on the matter
@transplantyooper3 ай бұрын
@@Pantherplatforms Understood. Most of these belay devices have a warning about using a backup. The risk they're warning about is in using a backup below the device, as the hitch could get sucked into the device and bind it up, which could be a huge concern if you're hanging off a rock hundreds of feet off the ground and you're forced to cut your way out of it. For our use, by putting a hitch above the device, this isn't a concern. As I mentioned, as you ascend the tree, the device will tend the hitch and push it up the rope. Just something to think about as for $15 for a 30" length of 8mm hitch rope it's a great peace of mind. Lot's of videos on youtube on this - NY Saddle Hunter is a good resource as the main guy is an arborist by trade, and he knows a lot about safely climbing trees.
