Such a pleasure to watch a truly great drummer, a master, even, at work. Sone of the techniques and stick control most of us could take a lifetime to achieve! Brilliant work and unbelievable to see what can be achieved by the most learned and dedicated of people. 10/10 thank you 👌

Nice parody on BR’s right hand! Great use of the index finger and how he never used it, along with the closed up thumb space, and your own inimitable humor!! Awesome, Dick!!! How to play like you and not BR!!! Haha!! Laughed myself silly, thank you!

One of the best Big Band drummers of all time is Dick Cully. One thing you can`t teach is feel for the music. Just listen to this outstanding recording of Flight to Nassau and how Dick with his playing brings up the level of this performance to make it so exciting. He supports his fellow musicians with his great drumming and those drums fills are just perfect for this arrangement. A master drummer who I got to know over the years and who has been so helpful to me when I started up my own Big Band. All my best to you my friend!

Dick Cully I should mention that Mickey Gilley’s drummer, Gary Cornelius alerted me to your work. Carrying the torch for the likes of Krupa, Rich and others. I read your background and I really am shocked. Someone as educated, passionate and skilled as you should be a household name. You should occupy the cover of drum magazines. Sadly, drum magazines seem to cover the same 6 metal or punk drummers every month. I agree with your KZbin comments concerning wanna-be’s that aren’t educated, gigging professionals. Finally, I am inspired by your videos and benefited from your tips like the proper throne level. I am inspired by your focus and drive. Old school hard work, education, and professionalism. The new breed seems more concerned with overnight success and BPM vs paying their dues. Now, I feel bad that I don’t have a WMP Buddy Rich drum set...always liked that kit and the matching canister throne. Buddy played the Flynn here in Vermont in late 1979, and shook hands with fans. ( I saw one 16” floor tom was basically a towel holder) I also liked Krupa and Louis Bellson's drum sets. Elegance.

Hey Dick, Man I was planning to drive out to Los Angeles this weekend for the Hollywood drum show and catch my buddies Jimmy Ford & Randy Caputo do a Drum Battle, but PG&E screwing with the power and $6 a gallon gas put an end to that plan. Nice playing, Caputo IS Krupa.

You are very gifted Dick! I had a question that you may have heard before I'm sure, do you know the technique used for playing the left-one handed roll? When played it sounds like a very fast single stroke roll with one left hand. Could you do a video of you playing it? Thanks.
@DickCullyTheDrummersDrummer
@DickCullyTheDrummersDrummer 5 жыл бұрын
I do not utilize what others play as a left-handed roll. Buddy didn't use it.
@dylangatenby9928
@dylangatenby9928 5 жыл бұрын
@@DickCullyTheDrummersDrummer However Buddy did use a pattern of single strokes with one left hand while playing, usually a solo, and a good example of this is the end solo pattern on Three Day Sucker. He is hitting the bass drum and cymbals while playing steady singles with one hand.
