Just as a heads up ─ there's a really insensitively named spell in the early editions, named for Black servants in rubberhose cartoons and films of that era. Otherwise I love ALL things T&T ha

That is so tough that you highlighted your rule book! It means it's a tool to you and reminds me of a warrior's well-worn sword hilt. I wish I had the guts to do that. 🙂

Holy crap, I used to play solo Tunnels and Trolls back in the 80s. I played so many of their solo modules, and they were all fun.

Your energy when playing and telling your story is very addictive. Bravo for recording an excellent playthrough. I already have my own fictional town and map which I turned into an interactive novel. Looking forward to expand it using the Cairn system 😊

Haven’t played Tunnels and Troll in a long time. I remember having the rulebook and a whole bunch of solo adventures to play through. I didn’t realize that the game had a new publisher. Then again, I think a number of companies have handled the product line. My favorite solo adventure was The Blue Frog Tavern.

Just finished up my fourth solo session of my Starblazer Adventures campaign. We were just a freighter crew doing various jobs throughput the galaxy. That was until recently when we were drawn into a conspiracy by an alien race fr outside of the galaxy to start a war with the Galactic Federation. We discovered their plans and warned the Federation of their plans. Now we have been conscripted by our Captain in to the war, in order to aid the Federation against these would be conquerors. 😊

I have no idea why the algorithm suggested your channel…But i like your videos! Very approachable. Not intimidating. Great examples of process without getting too in the weeds. Great energy. I’ve played D&D for like 4 years, but started Solo 2 months ago, and Cairn like 8 days ago, and am currently obsessed with both. 🍻

Good advice, thanks! For the first split second after I saw that glove, I thought it was a NES Power Glove! Sad that it wasn't but it's not like that was a huge possibility.

To keep my players engaged: That scene from A Clockwork Orange where the guy's eyes aren't allowed to shut.

I also love to engage the players but when dealing with more introverted folks, what I fond helps is to directly describe an event or action that involves them or evokes a reaction even when it's their turn. So: "The orc is going to attack you.." Or 'The Orc squares off with you dancing his huge sword about, clearly intending you harm. "Stupid, weak human (or whatever race). Now you die!" The second option gives a player several things to play off of such as the dialog or describing a physical response to the blade wielding menace. When you can take a scene, NPC, or event and describe it so its clear the player is being engaged directly, it will often encourage them to interact

Lastly, if you end in a place where something could happen but hasn't, start the next session in the middle of the action. For instance: End of session: "OK, you all travel for days and arrive at the town of Helmas. We'll end here." Next session: Right at the start - "You have traveled about the town of Helmas until dusk turns to night and the shadows lengthen from the few lanterns lit, looking for lodgings. When shadowy figures appear from the darkness around you wielding wicked blades and wicked smiles." You can't do this often but if things for a few sessions or so start to stagnant, get them into an action scene right away.

Thanks, Coach! Good video, as always. I especially like the advice about not being afraid to start GMing right away. It's a time-tested tradition to jump into it right away. A group of kids gets a game or starter set. None of them have ever played, but I've had to GM. That's worked for tons of people.

This is why I like your channel. Some other RPG KZbin sites come off as pretentious. Your approach is very welcoming and makes entering and being a part of this hobby something that’s to be enjoyed and not over-analyzed or judged. As for being a GM, it’s always a learning process that has to be continually adapted and grown. In October you should do a GMing tips that you have learned over the year. Thanks for another great video.
