I'm a CNC router newbie prepping for HDPE work. Can you explain what the various tools in your ATC are used for? I saw you mention you do roundover on a router table, so no roundover tool. What are the others? How many bits do you typically employ in processing a big run of cupholders or other HDPE items?
@MattVoda11 ай бұрын
Can you explain the laminate trimmer part? Is that basically an underpowered handheld manual router you use for cutting through the onionskin? Or is it more of a full-sheet surfacing you're doing to the backside of the sheet?

I'm looking for a solution like this. I just wish it didn't have to slide to the front to swap out, it's only a matter of time before I drop a $3000 trolling motor in the river ...or worse. I'm sure the anchor holds great, but I would prefer it to be pulling against a permanent stop as well.

awesome. can you offer the rail in black? I love everything about it except the color lol.
@Anchorbuilder2 жыл бұрын
Making the rail a different color looks good for a very short time. When the rail is used for a while the coloring wears off then it looks terrible. It is better to leave it natural and you can clean it up with some scotch brite.

Do you have any videos or pics of the dust shoe itself? I have a Biesse Rover CNC router with the same HSD spindle and want to make a custom dust shoe for it. My machine also has the "pot style" tool holders so the dust shoe would not have to be removed for a tool change. I also have a 5x10 Shop Sabre plasma table.

Don't know what spoilboard you're using, but i'm currently using 3mm 820kg/m3 MDF/HDF and it works miracles. I have a friend who's doing a lot of plastics and he switched to these sheets too. Doesn't need surfacing and the relative closed structure helps to keep a deeper vacuum when slotting. Thickness of these thing panels is very consistent too, so you can replace the spoilboard without the need for zeroing the spoilboard again. (unless you're after <0,05 accuracy in Z) In my experience the normal porous MDF tends to loose a lot of air when slotting. I must admit, I recognize the relieve of stress after your machine is allmost done. :) I normally do a -,1 to -.2 mm Z in the spoilboard, flip it and replace it when it's worn out. (the smaller slots are filled with the gasket when flipping it opver). I'm using a 280m3/hr vacuum pump of 7,5Kw for a 4,5m2 bed if that helps.
@MattVoda11 ай бұрын
Can you elaborate on your spoilboard? Am I correct in understanding it's more dense / less porous than normal MDF? Do you find it at a normal hardware store?
@berendlucasvanderweide11 ай бұрын
@@MattVoda Correct, it is more dense. Local hardwarestore? No idea what stock they have. I order it from a supplier in bulk, if you can source 3mm MDF, that's about the same density. Normally, the thinner the MDF the higher the density per m3. The reason is due to the pressing in the production process, the two faces have the highest density compared to the core.

I am in the process of buying an IS408 I'm trying to get a definitive answer on the height of the gantry I know the machine comes with an air cylinder to balance the spindle what is the overall height with the air cylinder on it and if you remove the air cylinder which they tell me ships loose what is the height of the gantry what is the highest point of the gantry that will not move up or down without the air cylinder Reason I'm asking I'm trying to get it through my door that is only 84 inches tall If I can simply hook the machine up to power and lower the gantry no big deal but from everything I can get from Shopsabre and the videos I see online I'm not so sure it will be that easy Super thanks for any info!! Nice table
@Anchorbuilder8 жыл бұрын
My machine is 93" high at the air balancer. You could probably save an inch mine is mounted atop some metal pads I made and my slab has a slop in it so it is higher on one side. I don't think it would be hard to remove the air cylinder to get it through your door. I would consider a larger table for minimal cost now compared to replacing it later. It is very handy to have extra room for fixtures just a thought. The balancer does not get shorter when the spindle is moved. Mike
