For the time, the graphics were pretty decent. I turned the music off after a while, because it got on my nerves. I believe they eventually did a remake of this game using X-Wing vs TIE Fighter game engine, but I could be wrong. As for the shields.... if you have time, sure dump some power into them to boost them up, but for this mission you need to say in contact with the with wing leader. Yes, I'm old, I also have collectors editions (DOS CD) of both X-Wing and TIE Fighter, not to mention several of the Star Wars flight games.

30 years ago this game made my joysticks broken down for three times :D

They basically stopped making this game after FreeSpace 2. I played some house of thr dying Sun. It was all right but very short story and the graphics were only a small step up in my opinion.

also use the I Key to toggle the display to have a better targeting computer.

slow down by charging everything when you go to ID the shuttles, you'll get things done faster. you could also double your cannons, charge full and destroy a tie to make things easier

The B-Wing is by far my least favorite. It was slow and difficult to control.

what happens in space with all of those stray lasers that missed? Do they just travel forever and the universe is at the mercy of them? It feels like a billion times worse than what stray bullets can do.

I had a Gravis Ultrasound back in the day and it is SHOCKING how much of a difference there was in sound quality between the Sound Blaster synthesis and that card!

God I remember installing this before we had a cd rom on our PC. Think it took like 18 floppies. Amazing game though.

This was my very first PC game. I bought it even before I had a PC. Back in those days I had an Amiga 500 but I wanted THIS game. So I bought it anyway just so I already had it before I would get a PC.

God I miss the X-wing series games. Still have the joystick I used when playing X-wing: Alliance. X-wing vs Tie was my least favorite, probably because we had dial-up at the parent's house at the time.

what a fucking story this was, cinematic masterpeice, along with 3. I wish they would keep all the movie footage (clean it up) and add in some better flying stuff for the missions. This is how a playable movie shouldve been

I had that game, it was an add-on to X-Wing, iirc. Also had tie fighter later on.

I dunno how that can be viewed as a really 'successful' mission--I mean, sure you destroyed the supply depot but you lost all of your wingies and your support Xwings. It's kind of a high price to play.

Game seems to be running a little choppy. If you're playing in DOSBox, adjust your "cycles" setting. For X-wing, the recommended values are in the 20000-24000 range, to ensure a smooth framerate.

When I was a kid I thought that dude was obi-wan I saw a white beard and what looked like robes and was like “ok that’s obi-wan”

I could hear the music in my head before opening the video, and soon as it opened... there it was.

Thanks for sharing this alternative ending. I suspect this might have been my 1st ending if I got to play it, but I suspect I would have played through again to see how other choices developed.

While this is a "failed" ending, I am glad someone pointed out this alternative ending.
