Excellent show! Ashton the Concept was so energetic and fun! Loved their opening song. There was some contrasting energies throughout the set. That could be either a good or a bad thing depending on whether or not you are being authentic, and/or approaching it with intention. For the record I think this set worked really well for you based on what Ive seen. Im just embellishing my feedback for the sake of provoking mindfulness. Your personalities came out a lot as you progressed through your performance of the Everlong cover, and it was great. That might have been my favorite part. I really liked the tone of Ashton’s voice once he got into that song. It was notably different. More earnest or sober than the other ‘fun’ ones. But that might just be a style preference based on my associations with the musical zeitgeist. Also, Bari sax in your indie-rock band?? I love this so much you have no idea… I came for Collywobbles, even though I’ll never be able to recall that name on command. The songwriting of Jonah and Maddie is so eclectic, and while I can hear some obvious influence in the songs it never feels quite pastiche, and the heart shows through the song with unique authenticity. I happen to be quite familiar with much of their original material so I know how these songs translate into full-band works, and I think when stripped down to the bare essentials, all the songs are just as good, if not better-which to me is the real mark of a “good song”. I think ‘This is Happening’ was my favorite one from this show. Mostly because they seemed so confident performing it. Especially Maddie. The effect that singing with confidence has on tone and dynamics is subtle but a total game changer. I love hearing Maddie’s voice with a little extra air behind it. But I must say I do really enjoy the element that the drums add in this song. I happen to know the gentleman who tracked the drums for that single...quite well, in fact. I must say that he is a talented and and charming fellow that just exudes charisma. And remarkably handsome, of course. Ashton’s drummer knows what I’m talking about… Hopefully that isn’t too much feedback. I just happen to know that most people don’t give complete (or even honest) feedback, and I know very, very well that getting any kind of feedback on your music is like pulling teeth…
