RS is the equivalent to a full M car. The m340i is an m-lite. To be fair S is the same as an M-Lite.

Test drove both cars extensively in 2024. Went with the M340i. B58 = One engine to rule them all.

I road-tested in Mauritius and found the automatic underpowered in many ways, it should be turbo the engine is struggling on the hills

So to get the best out the rs3 you need to use launch control. Pullimg away without does nothing for the rs3. Its not on boost, rs3 should of been in launch, and M340i should of been brake boosting. Rs3 takes it. But on a roll stocl for stock they pull same. Maybe 340 pulls ahead after 100mph? But with 1 extra cyclinder, bigger cc engine, and extra turbos the bmw has. Its obvious. But irs personal preferences. Rs3 has its strenghts in other areas. I have a friend who went pfl rs3, m2, then m340i. He still to this dsy prefers the rs3. Its all personal prefrence. M340i is a great car, same as the rs3 is. But i would personally prefer a true M car. I think its daft bmw make cars that close knit their M cars. End of day the M cars look miles better. I wanted an f80 m3, but seeing an m340i could out perform it. I decided rs3. I liked the m340i. But i knew the rs3 would hold its value over an m lite

I’ve always been a BMW lover, but given the classier look of the Arteon, I’d rather have that :) But I would’ve taken the BMW if it was the more luxury oriented versions
