Do you have a video on what to look for in the milled timber, sap, rot, knots etc?

Architect specified woven shingle corners for our summer house. I changed to corner boards because fragile woven corners near grade suffer from mower strikes and are really a lot of work to repair.

Why are you installing sidewall shingles on a flat surface? Did I miss the lath strips? Without the lath boards there is no ventilation, which protects the shingles from condensation and water vapor.

Wow, thanks for including sustainability! Love seeing support for the "GREEN+" movement. Certainly isn't laying the groundwork for land grabs and invasive, world-wide satellite surveillance. It's obviously just progress and conservation, right? NOT a new era of subjugation and control, economic exploitation and geopolitical manipulation. As if public-private partnerships would be about profit and control... Yeah right! What nonsense! Exactly what I was hoping to see while looking for info about wood 🪵

Can you show a shingled porch post? It's all woven, of course, and I'd like to learn that. I've shingled my house (the lower parts!) and wove the corners with a little instruction. I want to do the posts now.

2x4's are not traditional because they are Not 2x4. If we actually purchased 2x4's it would be right to call them 2x4. Don't call them 2x4's. Dimensionally inferior yes but not a traditional 2x4.

Timber frame is any frame made with timbers. Those timbers are used in mortise and tenon, post and beam, and post frame constructions. And seems many get this wrong. A timber frame is just that a timber frame. It has nothing to do with the type of framing you do with the timbers. You can even have a balloon framed timber frame too.

you really dont need to plane anything. start with the corner shingle and work your way back into the series, cutting one shingle to size if need be. just one more tool to set down pick up and waste time using.

You can omit it if you have a long timber. Some folks don't have access to them, so we include them in the drawings.

Great, you designed this timber frame layout tool. Would be nice if it was available. Given it hasn't been available for some time and perhaps not in the foreseeable future. You could post the design specs and we'll cut it on the cnc ourselves.

good video, But the best part is seeing the corner wrap of tar paper. Could be sticky tape but tar paper is fine. That keeps the corner weather tight over the years. Typar and Tyvek are not reliable water shields. I fix a lot of rot because people don't flash and wrap corners properly. Good job, thxs

I agree. Other than hands-on experience which is the way I learn best, videos of guys actually doing the work and walking you through the steps and seeing it done in person, are the next best way for me to learn.
