I love Gintama, its been my favorite series for over 14 years now and I often joke that it ruined anime for me, lol, mostly because nothing really has touched my heart more than this series. Gintama follows the story of an ex war veteran after the war with the Amanto (aliens) that the country lost- a spinoff to the industrial revolution of Japan when they were invaded bt Europeans. Sakata Gintoki, our main character- is 27 years old give or take, and runs his own Odd Jobs (Yorozuya) business, he ends up strapp3d with 2 kids (Kagura red hair girl- 14, and Shinpachi- Black haired boy 16.) And a dog, Who create a sort of fatherly/brotherly figure bond with him at some point. The show follows their odd jobs and goofy antics introducing a ridiculously large but beloved cast of characters along the way with a darker plot running subtly throught the background that will occasionally pop out before conpletely rearing its head towards the end of the series. Thats the most spoiler free ish breakdown I can give, lol.

I haven't check MAL for awhile, but last time I did, ALL seasons AND movies of Gintama anime are in the top 25. Now MAL has some controversy that it's rigged, or fans of some shows band together to keep their favorites on top 3 (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood reigned as top 1 for years even during AoT's peak). But Gintama has managed to stay top 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 25 with very little fan base. We Gintama fans don't add up to much even with international numbers, even less numbers who are active enough to vote on MAL. We don't have enough numbers to "rig" or sway poll popularities. But anyone who stayed & finished Gintama has loved it & has ranked it in their top anime of all time. It's unique despite parodying so many animes of its contemporary. And it has so much heart, wisdom and soul.

At first I treated Gintama like a thing to watch while eating and sometimes I couldn't eat because I was crying , A beautiful diary with different funny and dramatic stories with a special strange balance Our main guy is gintoki and he is 27 years old which is weird considering the shonen characters are kids mostly. Serious arcs happen long before the finale, but they don't always have fights and the author of the video preferred to include comedic moments from said arcs anyway. The first really dark arc happens around ep 60, the Benizakura. It also has a separate movie adaptation with better animation than the episodes had

I'm just begging you if you react to the openings, find a playlist with Op 17 version 4. 4 is the true version of the opening and one of Crunchyroll's playlists only uses version 1. It looks like yourube removed a lot of the playlists, sadly, but if you manage to find an all OPs that includes special ones, there some hilarious alternate versions of the openings. Just a warning, thougg, copyright goes hard after these songs, -especially the last few. The EDs are goated too though and might cause less issues

Gintama is 300 episodes of batshit insanity with a recurring cast of weirdos and a few dozen episodes of some of the best action and drama in anime. And it switches between them when you least expect it and somehow, it isn't jarring. It's mostly a sitcom though. Too many people go into the show expecting a battle shonen and only find dick jokes. Gintoki is one of the best protagonists in shonen. He's basically a failed shonen hero. Ten years ago, he had his cool shonen adventure and it went badly. Now he's a loser with ptsd who copes through humor and vices. There are multiple video essays on the surprising depth of his character though. He's also very much aware he's in an anime. There is no fourth wall. The plot in summarry: in 1860s Japan, they got invaded by aliens, fought a 20 year war against them, and lost. The aliens rapidly modernized Japan. The main character is a former war hero now living above a bar and doing odd jobs. He accidentally takes in two teenagers and a massive dog and he sometimes pays them to work for him. His town is full of weirdos. Cue shenanigans.

So... this is my favorite anime of all time) «Gintama» is for 70% - wild comedy and parody anime with a lot of references to other anime/manga, and for 30% - serious story with great plot, fights, drama, and amazing characters. Trying to tell, what is «Gintama» about is just waste of time, lol. Yes, this is a very unusual, specific and unique anime, and many people don't like it. He is often dropped after about 10-15 episodes. But I think this anime should be given a chance.

dragon ball is so nostalgic for me,i was there when the switch tp dbz happened,it was literaly ONE week if im not remembering wrong when the show goes from goku being a kid and then an adult,to another week going from wining the tornument to having a kid...it was crazy at the time

Love your enthusiasm, man! Anyway quick explanation: Dragon Ball is the original series, and it follows Goku from 12 to 18 years old, so he's just a little kid and a teen at the end. Then DBZ is him as an adult and he has children (the little one with the tail in the second opening, who is also the one with the short hair in the third opening, and the little "Goku" that got picked up by his mom is the second son.) Then GT takes place many years later but Goku gets turned back into a kid by a villain. This series is no longer canon. Dragon Ball Super on the other hand is the new Canon series that replaced GT, and takes place after the Buu Saga of DBZ. Dragon Ball Daima is the newest series. I haven't seen it yet myself, so I can't speak on it yet.

So, I never do this, but you deserve it. To answer your questions, goku had 2 kids. In the first opening, goku and the blue haired girl (who is his best friend) are a child, in the second one, both are adults and goku had a child, Gohan (the little one with the hat), in the third one, the blue haired girl also had a child who is the purple haired kid (there's also his Future self version but thats another whole conversation lol), goku died and now gohan is the protagonist in this arc and he is a grown man, and also before goku died he had another child, goten, who is the one to the left of gohan. His second child is the best friend of the child of the blue haired girl, as you guessed.
